Website Basics • Website Basics • Domain name and hosting • Domains can be under cap.gov or separate from cap.gov • CAP.gov domains require Region and/or NHQ approval and IT involvement • Non CAP.gov domains *should* have Wing CC’s approval • Integrity! • Purchased domain names should be short and memorable • Youngstowncap.org • Mncap.org

Website Basics • Website Basics • Domain name and hosting • GLR/Ohio Wing server • $30 per year fee • Requires Wing CC’s approval • Commercial hosting • Various plans available • Price range from $0-60 per year depending in features • A purchased domain name can point to either hosting option.

  14. CAP Regulations • CAPR110-1 • No unauthorized advertising • Defined as those who have not directly supported CAP • Disclaimer required for any authorized advertising • Best practices: • Limit commercial advertising • Do not host on hosts that insert advertising

CAP Regulations • CAPR110-1 • Website home page must clearly indicate • “Civil Air Patrol” • Name of sponsoring unit/group/wing/region • Websites are not a substitute for the chain-of-command • Do not violate the integrity of the chain-of-command! • Websites are not replacements for public affairs officers • Remember OPSEC!!!
