  1. The Ring is Often the First Sign of True Commitment When couples decide to take that all-important step of getting engaged as their first definite sign of telling the world that they are committed for life, they will most often go out immediately to look for the best ring that will symbolise their love and commitment to each other, and their promise to each other that the next phase of their life is about to begin. Of course this takes nothing away from those couples that stay together forever without getting engaged and married – it is simply the more traditional way for many. And yes, the engagement ring, and later the wedding ring, serves as symbol of that promise to be together forever. Getting the engagement ring, whether you live in China, Australia, Cape Town or Glasgow, carries the same meaning for most and therefore they will go out of their way to ensure they get that special ring that the woman will wear forever. Of course couples will decide what kind of ring they prefer as the symbol of this very important part of their journey. Traditionally the diamond ring has been very popular throughout the Western world for many years, and whether the diamond is set in gold, or silver or another metal is not always the most important factor to be considered. There are often other issues such as the size of the diamond, the type of diamond – or the number of diamonds, for example: every couple has their own style, tastes and preferences – and of course many may be limited by budget. Also, some prefer a ring with a solitaire stone whereas others prefer a stone surrounded by many other smaller ones – even in different gem stones. It remains a choice. All of these issues are considered when the engagement ring is discussed and planned. Of course not all couples do choose diamonds. Others may decide on other stones such as one of an assortment of different gems. Some may like a stone that shows stronger colours better, others may like a combination. Of course there are many different possibilities, and it is normally up to the couple as to what stones they like best.

  2. As for style and shape - the same is true: some couples like something modern whereas others find their inspiration in times gone by, in a bygone era such as the Victorian period, or other vintage styles with the emphasis on great decorative designs and ideas. The Victorian era, for example, is often seen as a period that inspired elaborate floral designs and detail. Some of today’s couples love those old styles and will therefore replicate some of those designs in what they wear in this day and age. Of course there are no hard and fast rules and prescriptions: couples go with what they like best. These styles are available, even if you will not find every style in every shop, but it is true that a good jeweller will be able to offer you better choices than those with limited choices. Couples do not necessarily buy the first ring they see. Most do some homework first to make sure they find the exact one they like. This means they may shop around whether on the high street of the city or town where they live, or on the internet. Also, not every couple will always be happy with what they see in the shops, as some detail that they want may be missing. In this case they may approach a jeweller that can actually design and manufacture a ring exactly according to their brief. Of course not every shop offers this service. For these specifics it will always be better to ask and look around for a jeweller that is known to offer this service. So whether you prefer a solitaire, a ring with multiple stones or a cluster design, be assured that you will find the ideal ring if you look around for the best jewellers.
