  2. Census Background Thailand’s first Population Census was conducted in 1909. Since 1960, NSO has been responsible for administrating Population Census every 10 years. The latest Population and Housing Census was carried out in April 2000 and ICR technology was first implemented for data capturing. The 2010 Population and Housing Census has been assigned on 1st – 31st July. This year is also 100th Anniversary of census.

  3. Preparation of Census To promote on the media: - Announcement in newspapers - Broadcast by community radio and television - Poster drawing competition, Census logo and slogan contest - distributing promotional calendar of Census 2010 and selling Census memorable stamps.

Preparation of Census Two pilot census tests were conducted : - One in 2008 in the Phitsanulok province (Northern) - Second in 2009 in Bangkok The objective of the pilot tests were to test all stages (preparation and planning, data collection, data processing and data analysis and dissemination) which were the lessons learned for planning the 2010 Population and Housing Census.

  8. Internet Internet data collection is an alternative for self- enumeration. The objective are decreasing coverage error, providing a way to get at hard-to-enumerate households. Web-based Data Entry is designed for self-enumeration on Internet that the respondent can be accessed. NSO is firstly provided for 2010 Population and Housing Census that would be convenience mode to the respondent to complete the questionnaire within the schedule time frame. The internet target is user- friendly reliable, unbiased and confidential.

Telephone NSO is also planed for the firstly use of Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) technique that the interviewer from Telephone Interview Center (TIC) reads the question developed on the computer screen and records the respondent's answers directly into the Web-based Data Entry. Regarding limited connecting network on peak time during census period, software applications of Web-based Data Entry for 2010 census was outsourced. However, the specific outsourcing issues are detailed and managed. NSO’s IT team would be evaluated to ensure the understanding of requirements for timeliness, quality assurance, data confidentiality and security.

  10. Data Management To aggregate the completeness cleaned data of 2010 Population and Housing Census from multi- sources before transferring to databases. Standard databases platform have been provided to Data Warehouse, Data Lab, NSO-GIS.

  11. Integration Databases of Population Census/Dissemination

Provide data to GSIC NSO have planed to link the Population Census database to Government Strategic Information Center (GSIC) to support the government agencies and disseminate the Knowledge through NSO Website. GSIC (Government Strategic Information Center) The Cabinet approved for implementing GSIC in 2004. The aim was responsible for administration and integrating all country data levels included government in provincial area. It also supported data for administration to Prime minister service center.

The Statistical Information Technology Services and Dissemination The NSO has expanded Information Technology services which users can access through internet web site : http://www.nso.go.th The summary statistics from censuses and surveys, statistical standard are as follows: - Data Warehouse Dissemination System - Data Laboratory is also enable users to select the request data. Users can access though the login screen. - Statistical Geographic Information System : SGIS (Type of Spatial geographic data with boundaries of province, district, sub-district on web by using Geographic Information System)
