  2. 7 MONSOON MISERIES THAT CAN BE DEALT EASILY Monsoon is a much awaited season as rain brings the temperature down and gives relief from scorching heat, but it also brings variety of health problems. Rain increases the humidity and decreases the heat which provides breeding ground for variety of bacteria, viruses , fungus and mosquitos. Thus increasing the chances of foodborne, waterborne and airborne diseases. A little precaution can save us from the below mentioned health problems: • Food poisoning: As bacteria grows very fast in this season the chances of food poisoning increases manifold. Food poisoning may result in diarrhea , vomiting, dysentery and fever. It is better to avoid eating outside and leftover food. WWW.JIYYO.COM

This occurs due to overflowing of drains leading to mixing of drinking water and sewage water. So if you are not sure about the source of drinking water in your house or if lot of jaundice cases are being reported from your area , drink only boiled water. Always carry your water bottle with you if going out. Typhoid fever: Typhoid though occurs throughout the year in India but its incidence particularly increases during rainy season. Typhoid basically occurs due to improper hand washing by the food handler and lack of appropriate covering of food items thus exposing them to flies. do not leave your food uncovered and follow proper hand washing after using toilet. These mosquitos are responsible for spreading deadly diseases like malaria, dengue and chikungunya. The best way of saving oneself from these diseases is to prevent collection of water near your house or workplace. Common cold: As we tend to get wet very often in monsoon the chances of upper respiratory infections increases a lot .Common cough cold can occur easily accompanied by high grade fever which may persist upto a week. Consult a doctor if high fever persists for long. Fungal infections: Humidity in the weather leads to decreased evaporation of sweat causing increased chances of skin infections like ringworm. Regular exercise, avoidance of salty, oily, junk and spiced food can help as these foods cause water retention which makes you feel bloated and depressed. Monsoon is a beautiful season to enjoy the rain after horrible summers. Few precautions can prevent the above problems if we consume clean drinking water, avoid outside food, maintain cleanliness in and around where we live and take care of personal hygiene.
