Past City Commission Events Could be Beneficial Today The West Palm Beach City Commission is an organization dedicated to highlighting everything that makes the city of West Palm Beach such a wonderful place to live. Focusing on enhancing the quality of life for all of the area’s residents and visitors, the City Commission has concentrated their efforts on increasing economic development to establish the city of West Palm Beach as both an international and national business destination. This is done through customer-focused services aimed to heighten the reputation of this sun-soaked city in South Florida. Al Zucaro: A man before his time In order to further build up West Palm Beach as a hub for domestic and foreign business, taking a look at past efforts could be very beneficial for the City Commission. One of the former members of the commission who served from 1995-2002 – active Boca Raton immigration lawyer Alfred Zucaro – used his role in the council to increase relations between prominent political, business, and education leaders in West Palm Beach with notable foreign nationals. He did so by creating social functions in the city with the main goal of building relationships always in mind. Zucaro capitalized on the fact that Miami-Dade County, located just a mere 40miles away, is home to over manyforeign consulates and trade offices. Zucaro was able to set up official visits to over a dozen consulates, including Mexico, Costa Rica, Portugal and Chile – among many others. After visiting the

  2. consulate, Zucaro would invite the Counsel General to a special event that would showcase the attractiveness and proximity of Palm Beach County. Learn from the past These events were always held at the Governor’s Club in West Palm Beach. The sole objective was centered around making connections that could assist in the expansion of foreign business in and around Palm Beach County. Because of these social gatherings, Zucaro was able to lay down a foundation that had the potential to facilitate business relations with investors from both near and far. Resurrecting these events, or events like it, could do wonders to help further propel the mission of theSouth Florida’s international economic development efforts.
