  1. 5 SPEECH THERAPY GAMES FOR HOME PRACTICE

  2. INTRODUCTION Parents often think that - hire a professional speech therapist and your job is done. Well, it is not true at all. Qualified therapists can help your child with their speech disorders and articulations yet, the time span of these interactive sessions is less. Parents are the ones who spend more and more time with their children than any therapist in the world. Thus, parents must find time and effort to be an integral part of their child’s speech therapy activities which can be performed at home. The more children are compelled to speak, the sooner the problems get dissolved.

  3. Here are some of the best speech therapy games that can be played at home: Alphabet Game Every group has their own version of the classic alphabet game. For your child’s benefit, you might wanna make the game into a word chain. For example, you may choose an alphabet like “b” or the sound /b/ and say a word that starts with /b/ like black, your child has to come up with the next word, the word chain has to continue till the other partner can’t remember a word. Then the game switches to the next alphabet.

  4. I Spy Tongue Twisters This is a game in which there are two people, one person could be the spier and the other is a guesser. You could always ask your child to repeat tongue twisters with silly speech sounds within. Both will be standing in a comfortable, familiar place like a dining hall or kitchen or drawing room, now the spier must spot an item in the room and start describing some features of the object and the guesser must come up with the right answer. They might find it hard, but they will make an effort to try it which increases their strengths of articulation, speech speed, sense of humor etc. For example, “I spy on an object that starts with an M”.

  5. Flashlight Hide & Seek You have to write a bunch of words and place them around the house in different positions and black out the entire house. Give a flashlight to your child and ask him/her to find the words scattered around. As soon as a word is found, the child has to say it out loud and you can strike off the word from the list as found.

  6. Make the Shape You can write all the alphabets in flash cards or paper chits, let the children pick one and start shaping a word that starts with the alphabet using paper cuttings or playdough or building blocks as per provided. After shaping the word, other children have to guess it and they could also use the word in a sentence for extra points.

  7. CONCLUSION Studies have proven that short, frequent speech games are really effective in rectifying speech problems. The best speech therapy centers in Sharjah and others, provide the greatest tips and guidelines for parents, as they have an enormous role in the lives of their children.
