Five Steps to Better Hearing

The most common cause of hearing loss is age. Almost everyone will experience some level of hearing impairment over the years. This is because as you age, you lose hair cells in your inner ear. <br>Hearing tests are comprehensive and professional procedures, using the most up-to-date technology and techniques available. Youu2019ll be made very comfortable and will be explained everything to you as audiologists go along so you always know what is happening. Once the hearing test is complete, the audiologist will show you your results, explain them to you, and answer any questions you may have.   3. How do we hear? Our ears are delicate, detailed sensory organs. They are also mechanical systems based entirely on physical movement.

  4. Types of Hearing Loss CONDUCTIVE HEARING LOSS Hearing loss can result from a number of things including: illness, an accident, or being born with varying degrees of hearing loss. Still, the most common sources of hearing loss are as a result of the normal aging process or exposure to loud noise. SENSORINEURAL HEARING LOSS

  5. Conductive Hearing Loss Caused by problems with the outer and middle ear, which prevent sound from reaching the inner ear Some of the more common causes of conductive hearing loss are wax build-up, a perforated ear drum, fluid in the middle ear, or damage to the bones in the middle ear

Sensorineural Hearing Loss Most often associated with the aging process, sensorineural hearing loss is caused by damage to the sensory cells or nerve fibres of the inner ear, hindering the transmission of sound Speech is difficult to understand, particularly in noisy places or at a distance Exposure to noise is a contributing factor

  8. Step One: Consultation YOU WILL MEET WITH AN AUDIOLOGIST OR HEARING INSTRUMENT SPECIALIST WHO WILL CONDUCT THE FOLLOWING: • Interview you to discuss your hearing • Review situations where you may experience hearing difficulties • Examine each ear • Complete hearing evaluation

  9. Step Two: Recommendation FOLLOWING THE CONSULTATION, THE AUDIOLOGIST WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH RECOMMENDATIONS. THEIR SUGGESTIONS WILL TAKE THE FOLLOWING INTO ACCOUNT: • Your hearingevaluation results • Your lifestyle • Your hearing aid style and technology preference

  10. Step Three: Hearing Aid Order IF YOU DECIDE TO PROCEED WITH HEARING AIDS: • Impressions of your ears willbe taken • A fitting appointment will be scheduled within two weeks of the hearing aid order

Step Four: Hearing Aid Fitting AT YOUR HEARING AID FITTING, THE AUDIOLOGIST WILL GO THROUGH THE FOLLOWING: • Check overall comfort and cosmetics of the hearing aids • Set the hearing aids to a comfortable volume and verify sound quality • Instruct you on use and care of your hearing aids • Discuss a hearing aid use schedule toget you started • A hearing aid fitting follow-up appointment with the audiologist or hearing instrument specialist will be booked at this time.

Step Five: Follow-up Appointment YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING WITH THE AUDIOLOGIST : • Your experience with the hearing aids in different listening situations • Whether your objectives with the hearing aids have been met • The audiologist or hearing instrument specialist will fine tune the hearing aids to improve your hearing aid experience, if required • The audiologist or hearing instrument specialist will provide education and counseling, if required • Future service will be provided as required to ensure the hearing aids continue to meet your goals and objectives
