  2. Purpose of the day For staff working in alternative education and associated services to receive training together and to develop a community of practice in joint work to provide best outcomes for our most vulnerable children and young people and their families.

  4. What is Alternative Education provision? Alternative provision (AP) is defined as: • “Education arranged by local authorities for pupils who, because of exclusion, illness or other reasons, would not otherwise receive suitable education; • Education arranged by schools for pupils on a fixed period exclusion; and pupils being directed by schools to off-site provision to improve their behaviour” • (Alternative Provision Statutory Guidance for Local Authorities. DfE January 2013)

  6. What does Early Help mean? Support which is offered to children and young people as soon as needs start to be identified, to bring about change to prevent these from escalating. More information including links to the Early Help Offer can be found at: www.bathnes.gov.uk/earlyhelpapp

  7. What does CAMHS stand for? CAMHS stands for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. In B&NES the CAMHS service is run by Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust CAMHS number – (01865) 903889 Naomi Oliver – Social Worker- Getting help clinical lead John-Mark Popplestone- RMN- Interim Manager OSCA and GH Explain concerns and discuss a pupil in an anonymised case further with someone.  Signposting, advice, thinking about thresholds what needs to be considered, courses, is it for counselling is for CAMHS. CAMHS School Hubs—All secondary schools and colleges in Bath & North-East Somerset have a named CAMHS clinician who provides monthly consultation available for all school staff who may be worried about a pupils Emotional or Mental Health. In a year 6 class of 30 how many children are likely to have experienced a mental health difficulty? • One in ten children will experience a mental health difficulty at least once before age 11 • 50% of lifetime diagnosed cases of mental illness start by the age of 14 • Poor mental health in childhood is associated with poor childhood and poor adult outcomes.

  10. What is the Rainbow Resource? The Rainbow Resource is Bath and North East Somerset’s Local Offer which provides Local information for families with a child or young person with additional needs, a special educational need or disability. As part of the Children and Families Act 2014, all Local Authorities are required to publish a Local Offer of the support and services we expect to be available for children and young people aged 0 – 25 with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Disability (SEND), across Bath and North East Somerset. Our Local Offer for special educational needs and disabilities is Rainbow Resource

  13. What does EHCP stand for? An education, health and care ( EHC ) plan is for children and young people aged up to 25 who need more support than is available through special educational needs support. The Children and Families Act (2014) reformed legislation relating to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).   14. What does HERS stand for? Hospital Education and Reintegration Service The Local Authority is responsible for arranging education for pupils who are resident in Bath & North East Somerset and are medically unfit to attend their registered school or other registered educational provider. Education will only be arranged for children who are not able to attend their education provision at all due to a medical condition and only for the duration of that medical condition. HERS will offer a bespoke package which could take the form of on-site learning at Broadlands Academy, 1-1 tutoring, small group teaching & on-line learning.

  15. What does the Student and Family Support Service (SAFS) provide? Support students with a successful reintegration into school Understand and assess students’ individual needs Establish a relationship of trust between students, parents/ carers and schools Help organise transport and uniform if necessary
