  1. India – The Land Of Beautiful Attire A Quick Guide to Indian Dresses

  2. Introduction • India has given many things to the world, and among them is the country’s unique attire. • While for many years, Indian clothes were secluded only to Indians in the country and abroad, recently, it has become the craze even for westerners. • Let us take a quick look at the various kinds of Indian Dresses

  3. SalwarKameez

  4. SalwarKameez is a widely popular kind of clothing widely adorned by women in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Afghanistan. • It is the preferred garment of choice due to it’s flexibility and its adaptability to the varying climates. • It consists of three parts — the salwar which is like a loose pyjama, the kameez or the shirt or tunic, and a dupatta or odhni.

  5. Sarees

  6. Saree is India’s gift to the women of the world, which Indian ladies have been donning since times of antiquity. The world has really started taking notice of this garment, since it accentuates the true beauty of a woman. Over time, different parts of India created their own styles and techniques, based on fabric and design. Today, one can find several forms of the saree, including kanchivaram, taant, Benarasi, leheriya, paithani and others.

  7. Kurta Pajama

  8. The kurta is to men what salwarkameez is to women. India men have been wearing kurtapyjama since ancient times, and usually resembles a loose fitting shirt, till knee length. • It’s roots lie in North India, and today is popular all over the country and in it’s neighbouring country Pakistan as well. • It is traditionally worn with dhoti, pyjama, salwaar or a lungi, though, nowadays it goes well with jeans as well.

  9. Sherwani

  10. It is a long coat-like garment which is very popular in India, especially, in family functions like weddings. • It is worn over a kurta and accompanied by  a churidar, a dhoti, a pajama, or a salwar. • It is said to be adopted from the British style frock coat. • The Nehru jacket has evolved from the sherwani as a shorter version.
