  1. TIPS TO ESTABLISH A SCHOOL ROUTINE TO ATTEND IN-PERSON LEARNING IN SCHOOL

  2. The outbreak of COVID-19 has significantly changed the classroom setup for children. During this pandemic, students were made to learn their classroom curriculum in an environment that has no desks, no peers, just a virtual learning format. Now that things are getting back to normal, returning back to school and learn in person will be an exciting experience for students.

  3. Kids have been at home for almost a year and the pandemic has drastically transformed the whole school experience. And that is why parents may need to switch up the routine that students have relied on the past.

  4. Here are a few suggestions that will help parents to be prepared for the night before school and in the morning to ensure that kids have a smooth start of the day. You child’s age will determine how much guidance they will need when preparing for the school day.

  5. PREPARATION FOR THE NIGHT BEFORE • Check the status of your child’s homework. Either submit the work digitally or pack it neatly in a folder or binder to submit it to the subject teacher.

  6. Help your child pack their backpack and essential materials class-wise. Some students may not able to use lockers during the day, so they have to bring along all their materials in their backpack to make the class transitions smooth. This eliminates the hassle of searching for materials before each class.

  7. Prepare a packed lunch and snacks ahead of time and place them in the refrigerator; don’t forget to keep the refillable water bottle.

  8. Pack hand sanitizer, 1-2 extra masks and tissues in a small zippered bag. Teach your kid the importance of sanitizing their hand after touching any surface. Also, include a lotion to moisturize after repeated hand washing or breath mints to keep the mask-covered breath fresh. Keep this hygiene-essentials bag in an easy accessible pocket of your child’s backpack.

  9. Pack an extra sweatshirt or a jacket in your kid’s backpack for layering in case the weather gets chilly.

  10. PREPARATION FOR THE SCHOOL DAY MORNING • Unlike virtual learning schedule where kids get up half an hour prior the class, the in-person classroom setup encourages students to wake up 1 to 1.5 hours earlier than their virtual class schedule. Take the extra time to feed your kid properly, dress them up without feeling rushed or running late.

  11. Start the morning with a health check. Take your kid’s temperature, ask them if they are feeling okay or any different than the regular days. Try to submit any required health screening forms right away to the school. • Make sure your kid has a healthy breakfast and fluid before leaving for the school.

  12. Make sure your kid has a healthy breakfast and fluid before leaving for the school. • Check whether your kid has all the essentials (lunch, extra mask, sanitizer) in their backpack. • Make sure your kid heads out to the school with a mask on and sanitized hands.

  13. Staying on top of the morning routine (again), especially after taking virtual classes for a year, is more than required and helps in establishing normalcy in students’ life. Although every parent’s method to get their kids back to the regular schedule may be different, using these tips can help make the morning routine real quick and hassle-free.

  14. Moreover, if your kid goes to a private school in Rockwall, check with the school if they are taking all the necessary safety measures during the pandemic to ensure children’s safety along with efficient learning.
