At International Security Summit held in Germany, David Cameron, Prime Minister of England, declared that UK’s multiculturalism failed after all. • Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France, said while focusing too much on immigrants’s identity, French forgot to brace France’s identity.
Multiculturalism in Korea • Korea is rapidly becoming a multicultural society with more and more foreigners who come to Korea to acquire Korea’s nationality every year. International marriages have increased to the point of approximately 12% of the total marriages in Korea. Every year, over 3 million women from Asian countries such as China, Philippines, and Vietnam marry Korean men.
FOR / AGAINST Foreigners can take charge of hard physical labor jobs (so-called 3D jobs). Having different cultures and subcultures can be one of the most important competitiveness a country can have. Multiculturalism is undeniable and being against it can have negative influences on Korea’s national brand. • It can cause a social confusion, distrust among people. • Many nations(like France) who once encouraged multinationalism are turning their back against it as they have suffered from it. • Koreans are not ready to accept multicultural families yet.
