  1. Business etiquette Hungary

  2. Contact and communication • It helps if you are introduced to someone, Hungarians trust friend’s friends more • Social gatherings are important places for making new contacts • You are likely to be invited to a dinner • Hungarians prefer face to face communication Hungarians are emotional, and tend to say what they think • We like to tell stories and anecdotes to prove our truth • We are suspicious with those who do not tell their inner feelings • We like eye contact

  3. Politeness • You have to fix the time of the meeting in advance in writing • Be punctual, if you are late phone • Do not cancel meeting at the last minute • Hungarians are quite traditional in connection with sexes: ladies first except when entering a restaurant!

  4. Business meetings and making contracts • Although Hungarians decide quiet quickly (especially compared to Japanese) concluding contracts are the last step of a long process of eating, drinking, socializing and having fun • Keep the business cards placed in front of you on the table during meetings

  5. Clothing • Men: dark suit with white shirt. Ties are often worn outside the financial sector and tie • Women: smart dress in senior positions but rarely are suit worn. • On weekdays jeans are acceptable but not shorts!
