  1. Chapter 3: Motion and Velocity I call it kinematics, one of my favorite topic in physics.

  2. Focused Learning Targets • I can calculate average velocity from a table of time and position values • I can solve equations for different variables specifically for time and distance • I can find the velocity of an object by finding the slope of a position time graph

  3. Position

  4. Displacement

  5. Time Interval

  6. Average Velocity

  7. Average velocity equation • The bar “” means average.

  8. Practice problems • “Mr. C we need to some problems!” • Okay, Page 46 #3,4

  9. Finding Displacement or Time • One equation, one unknown • Solve for the variable we don’t know. • Check the units, it can help you see if you have the right answer. • If the units are wrong, the answer will be wrong.

  10. Finding Displacement or Time • “Mr. C, we need you to show us an example!” • Okay, page 46, yellow box • Now it’s your turn • Page 47 # 5-8

  11. New Vocab • “Constant velocity” • Constant = ???? • Constant = always the same. • Constant velocity = same velocity all the time.

  12. Position-Time Graph • “Mr. C show us an example of one.” • Page 48 figure 3-5.

  13. Slope of a Position-Time Graph • How do you calculate slope? • Find the slope of the line on the graph. • What did you just calculate?

  14. Practice • Concept review #1.2, 1.3, Challenge 1.4

  15. Cool Down • What is average velocity? • What is constant velocity? • What are you calculating when you find the slope of a position-time graph?
