  2. What is Kurzweil 3000? • It is a digital resource to help those who struggle with • Reading • Writing • Hearing • Dyslexia • Dysgraphia • Studying • Comprehension • English as a Second Language

Text-to-Speech Capabilities • Can take words from a document or e-book and sound it out • Words are highlighted as they are read • Voices and reading rate can be adjusted • fast for more advanced, slow if reading is difficult • Tools that aid in pronunciation and spelling • Syllable function helps to say word phonetically • Translator • French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian or Finnish • Able to sound out the words in the translated language

Note Taking • Footnotes -> to specific words or phrases (highlight and click on footnotes) • Sticky notes -> Next to phrase or words • Bubble notes -> Added to pages to provide additional info • Column Notes ->add notes to specific sections of document • Voice Notes-> can create audio file next to words and phrases (click on words, then click “voice”) • Brainstorm -> can create mind maps, and group thoughts together • Outline -> similar to brainstorm, helps to organize main ideas into a proper format

Additional Study Tools • Highlighter • 4 colours to organize and group information simply by clicking on words • Different colours can be created into separate note sheets • Dictionary • Highlight word, and click definition for the meaning • Highlight word, and click synonym to find other synonyms for the word • Syllables • Highlight word, and click syllables to sound out word phonetically • Picture • Highlight word and click picture to get visual representation of word

  10. What are some Drawbacks? • Training time to use and explain software may be time consuming • Scan function can be time consuming • Time constraints if using for testing purposes • Navigating between multiple open documents can be difficult
