  7. MTH 111 – Algebra for College Students: Modeling Example • Course focuses on modeling and projecting real world data • example: 867-5309 • New Jersey DJ sold his music building and auctioned off the phone number on eBay. • The bidding was almost an exponential curve • But for the younger students, I have to put the number in context: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axLRUszuu9I Howard Francis, Pikeville College, ACA Summit

  8. MTH 111 – Algebra for College Students: Modeling Example • Let’s do this! • Graph Data Points • Draw a smooth curve through them • What does your graph predict the final bid to be? • Do other algebra to create function for that curve, and use it to predict final bid. Howard Francis, Pikeville College, ACA Summit

  9. MTH 111 – Algebra for College Students: Results • Students get dedicated class time to work on problems where support is immediately available. • I spend more class time helping students directly, one-on-one or one-on-few. • Daily out of class prep time is greatly reduced.
