  1. SepakTakraw

  2. History • Started as more of a game to demonstrate skills and agility by keeping up various objects such as shuttlecocks or other balls. • Modern SepakTakraw, or Takraw for short (also known as Kick Volleyball), began in Malaysia and is now their national sport. It combines elements of Soccer, Footbag, Volleyball, Baseball, Badminton, Gymnastics and the ancient sport of Sepak Raga. • ”Sepak” is the Malay word for kick and “takraw” is the Thai word for a woven ball, therefore sepaktakraw quite literally means to kick ball.

  3. What is SepakTakraw? • This unique game combines skills used in soccer, volleyball and gymnastics to name a few. • Each team consists of 3 players • Just like volleyball, each team is allowed 3 hits to try and score with each player allowed one hit. • Players are allowed to strike the ball with any part of their body with the exception of their arms and hands

  4. Variations • Competition • Match consists of 3 sets • A sets consists of 15 points • First to win 2 sets wins • Home • Circle formation • Hoop formation • Shorter net

  5. Anyone can Play!

  6. Rules • Sepaktakraw is played between two teams of three players; the left inside, right inside and back. • The court is the same size as a badminton court and the net height is 1.52 meters. • For the game, scoring is similar to volleyball. The first team to score either 15 or 21 points, depending on the rules in play, wins the set. The team that prevails in two sets wins the match. • Play starts when the server is tossed the ball by a teammate. The server then kicks the ball over the net.

Similarly to other sports, SepakTakraw can be played both competitively and leisurely. It does not take many to create a match and it requires various skills. It is definitely a game worth trying if you are up for the challenge and excitement of an ancient game!
