  1. Do you know Sepak Takraw?

  2. Brief History • Sepak Takraw was created by the royal family of Malaysia about 500 years ago. • The name itself comes from two languages. • Sepak means "kick" in Malay, and Takraw means "ball" in Thai. • It looks very similar to the Japanese traditional game, "kemari" where the players form a loose circle and the number of times the ball is kicked before it touches the ground is counted. • In 1965 the game was unified into the present volleyball style with the addition of a net and the adoption of international rules.

  3. Court Size and Dimensions • The court size is comparable to that of Badminton with some altercations. • 13.4 m in length • 6.1 m m width • Net is 1.52 m in height • Server circle is 0.3 m • Quarter circle 0.9 m side of net

  4. Rules • Rules are same as VOLLEYBALL with five important exceptions. • The use of hands is not permitted. • Each player may touch the ball only once before it is kicked over the net. • There is no rotation in the defense position. • It becomes a score (net in) even if the ball touches the net before falling into the companion court. • Most people don't know very much about the game!

  5. Serving • The player who kicks a serve simply puts a leg (shaft foot) in the service circle, and takes a toss from the player who went into the quarter circle (the semicircle of a radius 90 cm done around the contact point of the center line and the sideline), and kicks the ball. • When a game begins by one serve, a ball can be touched by the attack of one time to three times. You can use a head, a back, legs, and anywhere except for the arm from the shoulder to the point of the finger.

  6. Game Scoring • The team which scored two sets out of three sets first get the victory in the game. • Each sets consist of 15 points. • Only 6 points of the third set are systems.

  7. The BALL • Sepak takraw balls that has a hand-woven covering must have 12 holes and 20 intersections, must have a circumference measuring not less from 42–44 cm for men and from 43–45 cm for women, and must have a weight that ranges from 6.0–6.3oz. for men and from 5.3–5.6oz. for women. • The ball can be in plain single color, multi-color, and luminous colors, but not in any color that will impair the performance of the players. • The sepak takraw ball can also be constructed of synthetic rubber or soft durable material for covering the ball, for the purpose of softening the impact of the ball on the player’s body. The type of material and method used for constructing the ball or for covering the ball with rubber or soft durable covering must be approved by ISTAF before it can be used for any competition.
