  1. Looking Back at Me …A look into my visual thinking changed by technology…

  2. Timeline of Andrew’s Life1986-2004 Wrote cursive, began base of spelling Began using CAD (computer drafting program) Text message on cell phone Started playing video games Used a speed typing program Explored computer programs a lot Given ability to begin using texts Age 12 Age 14 Age 8 Age 10 … Micro-soft Word begin-nings Age 6 Began using spell checker greatly Age 9 Family got AOL accounts Age 11 Age 13 Used AOL Instant Message on a regular basis Age 16 Age 17 New Born

  3. Technologies for my Mind • Video games • AOL Instant Messaging • *** CAD *** • Building engines

  4. It changed my visual thoughts…My visual thoughts changed my life… CAD • CAD (Computer Aided Design) is a computer program used to replace mechanical drafting. • The CAD program allows you to draft and dimension 2D and 3D objects as well as draw any object. • http://www.autodesk.com/us/interactiveoverviews/demo_2005/autocad/lt_english.html

  5. First Experience Getting familiarized with the program; Drawing simple, fun objects such as interesting cars and smiley faces

  6. And on to… • Drafting mechanical objects • Dimensioning the objects Visually: I can Imagine an object cross hatched and dimensions of any 2D or 3D object.

  7. Architecture • Given a project to design a house. • I had to make a certain number of room fit within the square feet limits. • Every part of the house was dimensioned. Visually: Visualize any floor plan and also navigating through it in 3D.

  8. 3D • Began with simple objects: • 3D project with step by step instructions of putting together a complicated object. Visually: Imagine how objects come together and advanced how I imagine anything in 3D.

  9. Final Project • Final project was to make a difficult 3D object. • Made a helicopter in full detail. • Visually: • Rotating it around and seeing every little detail expanded the visualization in my mind immensely. • Can rotate in 3D any object I see or just imagine. • Also how the parts work when they come together on any object.

  10. Final Project… Again • Made a new project; a car audio amplifier. • All the fins and curves made it difficult, but I learned more about CAD making it. Visually: Added more to the abilities that I gained from working on the helicopter: Seeing, rotating, understanding objects in 3D

  11. Cause: CADEffect: My hobbies and life • Being able to think in 3 dimensions and everything else CAD has changed has effected my hobbies. • Being able to do these things brought me to enjoying mechanics and on to building an engine.

  12. Building an Engine • Working with in-depth mechanics and theories. • Building and machining the parts and reading on how they work. Ex: porting and polishing cylinder heads and putting them together really helped me to see how everything worked exactly. • Dealing with detailed 3D parts really expanded being able to visualize in 3D, especially with the parts of engines and cars.

  13. CAD and building engines expanded and created all my abilities to visualize anything in 3D. • Understanding many concepts and picturing everything has become easier. • Being able to do these allowed me to pick up on my hobby of building engines.
