  3. LJUBLJANA • Below the ground in the centre of the city, there are 2000 years old ruins of Emona, the Roman town. • Ljubljana is Slovenija’s biggest city and its the capital of Slovenija too. Ljubljana’s symbol is a dragon on a tower.

  4. MARIBOR • Maribor is the second biggest city in Slovenija. • It lies on a heigh of 269 meters, and it has about 115000 cityzens. • Zlata Lisica is one of the biggest competitions in Maribor.

  5. CELJE • It is one of the biggest cities in Slovenia. • It the city from the older iron age. • Handball club from Celje won the European club championship in the year 2004.

  6. KOPER • Koper is the main Slovenian port and the entrance to the inland of the Central Europe. It is located on the "top" of Istria. Koper was an island till the 19th century. Later the town and the island were connected with the mainland. Old town centre boasts with the rich architecture and cultural monuments.

  7. PORTOROŽ • Portorož is the most vivid and worldly Slovenian tourist centre of Slovenian coast.

  8. PIRAN • Piran is an old Mediterranean town which is situated at the cape of the Piran penninsula. The town is actually one large museum with the medieval architecture and a rich culture heritage. Narrow streets and tight houses are a special charm of the town.

  9. KRANJ • Kranj is the capital of Gorenjska and the fourth largest town in Slovenia. Old part of the town is like a penninsula above the of Kokra and Sava river. Kranj is a very important Slovenian trade centre.

  10. NOVA GORICA • The municipality of Nova Gorica is located in the area between the Alps and the sea, on the crossroads which connect the east and west. It is placed on the border line which separates the Romanic and Slavic language areas as well as the Germanic language area which is close by.

  11. NOVO MESTO • Town municipality of Novo mesto is one of the eleven Town Municipalities in Slovenia. Through history Novo mesto established itself as economic and cultural centre of the Dolenjska region. Its responsibility is to lead the region in further development and future European integration processes.

  12. PTUJ • The municipality of Ptuj is situated in the northeastern part of Slovenia, in the centre of the Lower Drava Region on the border with the region of Prlekija.

  13. MURSKA SOBOTA • The role of Murska Sobota as a tourist town hasn't been emphasized enough. Two hotels: Diana with its hall swimming pool and recreational centre, and Zvezda, the swimming pool and recreational centre in Fazanarija, some tourist offices and more and more guest-houses can change this picture very soon, along with the rich cultural offer. • As a town Murska Sobota was mentioned for the first time in 1366. In 1479 the Hungarian king Matthias Korvin allocated the town free fair rights.

  14. IDRIJA • It spans at the upper river basin of the Idrijca and the picturesque mountains, representing a transition between the subalpine and karst regions. This region is known for its abundance of natural sights and cultural historical as well technical monuments. The town of Idrija (population 7,000) developed in a basin in the middle of a wooded area. It was here in 1490 that a rich deposit of mercury ore was discovered. Now, Idrija s famous mercury mine, which was the second largest mercury mine in the world, has closed after 500 years.

  16. POSTONJSKA JAMA • More than 26 million people from all over the world have admired the stalagmites and the stalactites of the Postojnska jama in 175 years of organised tourism. However, ancient signatures in the entrance passages prove that the cave was first visited in the 13th century.

  17. ŠKOCJANSKE JAME • Because of  their extraordinary significance for the world's natural heritage, in 1986 the Škocjan Caves were included in UNESCO's world heritage list. They were listed as a first underground wetland in the world in 1999 representing Ramsar wetlands of international importance.

LIPICA • You may have seen the famous Lipizzaner horses on tour or at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, but to see these graceful white horses moving freely on green fields, you should visit Lipica, a village in Slovenia’s Karst region close to the Italian border. • Lipica is the most famous stud-farm in Slovenija.

  20. PLANICA • Planica is the western most valley in the northwest part of Julian Alps. It is also refferred to as The valley under Ponce or the valley of ski jumps. At its end it traverses into one of the most beautiful parts of Slovenia - Tamar. Ponce (2274m) on the west side, Cipernik and Mojstrovka on the east and Jalovec rising over Tamar make the borderline of the valley of ski jumps. On the slope just above Tamar is the well of Nadiža, the first of Sava Dolinka's wells.

  21. POSOČJE • The area of the upper basin of the Soča River was cut into the Alpine mountains and hills by the Soča and the Koritnica rivers, the Nadiža in the west, and the Tolminka River, the Idrijca and the Bača in the east.

  22. CERKNICA LAKE • Cerkniško jezero is the biggest lake in Slovenija. • Cerknica lake is the Karst disappearing lake. • In the winter we can skate on it.

  23. KRANJSKA GORA • Kranjska Gora is a great touristic destination. It is famous and popular SKI centre in winter. High peaks are a challenge for mountaineers. Road to the Vršič pass and bike routes are a pleasent idea for vacations. There is one of the entries to Triglav national park.

Terme 3000 • The mighty power of water, which has been heated in the warm bossom of the Earth, squirts from the depth of nearly two kilometers and spills into numerous pools, rapids, man-made waterfalls and down the tubes of the two water-slides whereby the fine drizzle of tiny drops hugs the bathers who have come to relax and get well.

  27. DOLENJSKE TOPLICE • Dolenjske Toplice are one of the oldest spa health centres in Slovenia. The spa was first mentiored in the year 1224. They developed at the spring of thermal water (36°).

  28. ČATEŽKE TOPLICE • Children can carelessly play beside the pools, the variety of forms and offers made it popular as well with the young and old, that enjoy the health-strengthening influence of thermal water; after all, 640.000 visitors visit the Thermal Riviera every year.

  30. JULIJSKE ALPE • What these mountains lack in height they make up for in character: Their sheer cliffs and razor-sharp ridges rise to steep, crumbling pinnacles. Excellent and long rock-climbs abound here, the highest and most popular of which is Triglav (9,396 ft./ 2,864 m), whose steep north wall is one of the most daunting sights in the Alps.

KARAVANKE • Karavanke is a mountain range on the border between Slovenia and Austria. • Running for one hundred and twenty kilometers in total length, the Karavanke chain is the longest range in Europe. The highest peak is Stol (2236m). Some others are the Korošica Ridge, Golica, Peca, and Olševa.

  32. KAMNIŠKO SAVINJSKE ALPE • Kamniško Savinjske Alpe are a mountain world of narrow vallies, wild gorges, steep slopes, and rocky cliffs. Below the viewpoint peaks spread vast forests where the highest solitary farmsteads in Slovenia struggle for space and sunshine.

  33. TRIGLAV • Triglav is a tourist attraction too. It’s the highest mountain in Slovenia. On both pictures there is Triglav from different points of view. • It’s 2864 meters high.

  34. POHORJE • The ski centre Mariborsko Pohorje offers more than 40 km of well-kept slopes for all kinds of skiers, be it a beginner or an expert skier. The slopes range from 325 m to 1327 metres above the sea level. • The Pohorje ridges offer 36 km of cross-country ski runs. • The slopes are connected by 4 chairlifts, 16 ski-lifts and by a gondola. You can reach it the gondola by city bus. • If you buy a multi-day ski pass on Mariborsko Pohorje, you can use it in the ski centres Kope and Ribniško Pohorje.

  35. ZLATA LISICA • Zlata lisica is a skiing competition for women. • This competition is in Maribor (Mariborsko pohorje).
