Statistics: • Bullying begins in the elementary grades and increases in the middle school years. • 87% of teens said that the strongest motivation for school shootings is revenge. • 86% of teens say that other kids picking on them, making fun of them or bullying them causes them to turn to lethal violence in the schools. • Harassment and bullying have been linked to 75% of school shooting incidents, including the fatal shootings at Columbine.

  5. Academic: • 8% of students miss 1 day of class per month for fear of Bullies. • 1 out of 10 students who drops out of school does so because of repeated bullying. • Bullying has devastating effects on victims. The violence of the word can leave you hurt you more than a cut with a knife.

  7. How can you help? • Take away the power of the bully by not providing an audience for the behavior. • Theater cannot take place if there’s no audience. • Refuse to join in if you see someone being bullied • Attempt to draw attention away from the person being bullied. Ask the bully to cool it. Do not place yourself at risk. • Get help immediately • Speak up and offer support to bullying. Offer kind words and support to the victim privately. • Encourage the bully victim to talk with parents or a trusted adult.

  8. If you are being bullied • Talk to an adult, by not talking you are giving permission. • Do not blame yourself for a bully’s actions. • Act confident. Hold your head up, stand up straight, make eye contact, and walk confidently. • Make friends with other students. • Avoid situations where bullying can happen. • Do not resort to violence, or carry a gun or other weapon
