  1. Welcome to 5th Grade 2014-2015

A Checklist for Tonight: • Meet Mr. Williams! • Find your desk and classroom number. • Find your mailbox.  Your cubby space is directly below your mailbox. • Find your drawer. • Begin putting away your supplies. Instructions are on your desk (We will organize on Wednesday). • Parents write down your name, preferred phone number(s) and email address on the index card. • If you are the youngest sibling or only child at KST, please place the pink sticker next to your numbered mailbox. • Tour the classroom. • Learn more about what to expect in 5th grade and the curriculum by watching the following presentation.

Mr. Williams • I am very excited to begin my tenth year teaching 5th Grade at Kaneland John Stewart. • I graduated from Monmouth College with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and earned my Master’s Degree in Education at Northern Illinois University. • I currently live in South Elgin with my wife Kelly (a kindergarten teacher) and my one year old son , Rhett.

Daily Schedule 8:50 – Attendance and notes for the office. 8:55 - 9:55 – Specials 10:00 - 10:30 – Power 1/2 Hour 10:30 - 12:10 – Language Arts Block 12:10 - 12:55 – Recess / Lunch 12:55 - 1:10 – Assignment Notebooks 1:10 - 2:10 – Math 2:10 - 2:30 – Read Aloud 2:30 - 3:15 – Science / Social Studies 3:15 - 3:25 – Clean up and get ready to go home 3:25 – Walkers’ bell 3:30 – Bussers’ bell

  12. Homework Assignment Notebooks – It is the student’s responsibility to record their daily assignments and bring it home. Konnect – Daily assignments will be posted Daily Assignments may include: • Math • Reading Logs ***Other assignments may be included ***Homework expectations are 30-60 minutes

  13. Character and Student of the Month • Character Counts Traits are expected and utilized as part of fifth grade guidelines and procedures. • Each month a student from the classroom is recognized for demonstrating a particular character trait. • In addition, each month a student is awarded Student of the Month based on academics, behavior, leadership, etc.

  14. Extras • Sign-up for Conferences (Gym) • Sign-up for Classroom Volunteering (Konnect) • Once you’ve had the chance to edit the Student Verification Forms (in your mailbox), please initial them and turn them into the blue homework bin. • Take home your Konnect ID# and password form (in your mailbox). • Sign-up for Watch Dogs
