  2. Defining Trends The Gaza Strip Efforts to aid the local resident in Gaza Strip continue, including transfers of food, equipment, and medical supplies. During the past month, there has been an increase in the extent of humanitarian aid transferred into the Gaza Strip, with over 2,500 trucks and 60,000 tons of supplies provided to the residents of the Gaza Strip via the crossings. Despite this, terrorist activity has increased. During the past month, over 20 mortar shells have been launched toward Israeli territory, one hitting close to Kibbutz Netiv Ha'asara (1/4), which suffered the death of a foreign worker last month as a result of rocket launching. In addition, attacks against IDF forces continue, as witnessed by the grenade throwing of a Palestinian towards an IDF force on April 16th and the frequent rioting by Palestinians near the crossings. The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to harm the citizens or soldiers of the State of Israel and will continue to operate firmly against anyone who uses terror against it. The IDF holds Hamas solely responsible for maintaining peace and quiet in the Gaza Strip.

  3. Defining Trends The West Bank Terrorist activity in the West Bank has continued over the past month, as witnessed by the several assaults against Israeli civilians and security forces. These assaults contain several cases of rock throwing towards civilians and IDF forces, as well as tossing of Molotov cocktails (26/04) and the injuring of an Israeli civilian (29/04). In addition, arms in large quantities have been discovered on Palestinians. Grenades, hunting rifles, handguns, pipe bombs and RPG missiles are just a fraction of the vast amount of arms confiscated in April, reflecting the repeated attempts to carry out terrorist attacks against Israel's civilians and soldiers. Palestinian Security Force operations in the West Bank continue but their scope and quality must be increased. Israel will not compromise its security and when necessary, the IDF takes actions to prevent terrorist actions from being carried out. Terrorist attacks jeopardize the positive development which has taken place so far in the region.
