Growth from New Churches • 1,065 churches started since 1999 • 697 new churches still active in 2009 • Over 28,000 members in new churches • Nearly 36,000 in worship in new churches • 780 older churches no longer active: 15% of active churches reporting in 1999 • Churches begun by 1999 lost 7,000 members during decade • Churches begun by 1999 lost 26,000 worshippers during decade

  8. Growing Churches 2008-2009 These churches outpaced the denomination in worship growth in 2008-2009 • New churches (started in 2000 or later) • Churches under 50 in worship • Multicultural churches (best: Chinese, Hispanic, Native American, Haitian) • Churches over 1,000 in worship

  9. To Simply Maintain A District or Denomination Must Add +3% New Churches Every Year • For 50 Churches = 1.5 Average • For 75 Churches = 2.25 Average • For 100 Churches = 3.0 Average • For 5,000 Churches = 150 Average

  20. Wrong Use of Money Causes Dependence Stifles Freedom Places Wants over Eternal Needs “Money is usually a greater hindrance than help in multiplying [reproducible] churches.” Charles Brock

  21. Lack of Workers • The Lord of the harvest has said: “The harvest is ripe.” John 4:35 • “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few” Luke 10:2 • “Ask the LORD of the harvest to send out workers…” • Shepherds are the Gatekeepers to His harvest field.

  22. Consider This Dramatic Change • Identify • Recruit/ Select • Deploy • Train This focuses on empowering rather than screening.

  23. Change What We Reward Whatever Gets Rewarded Gets Reproduced • Not Seating Capacity but Sending Capacity • Not Size but Strength • Strength is Measured by Health • Health is Measured by Ability to Reproduce

  24. Think About it • Why don’t we see rapid growth here in the US like we do in other world areas? • Do we have the faith to believe that the harvest is ripe and plentiful? • Do you believe it for your Mission Field?
