  2. No lost flight opportunities due to aircraft (or payload) maintenance or problems. Proteus was used successfully in FY02 deployment… • Carried operating ARM-UAV payload from Mojave, CA, to • Ponca City, OK, during engineering/transit flight • 12 flights for total of 75 flight hours over 21 days • 4 flights on consecutive days including 8.75 hour flight • 2 hops in one day including refueling and changing out faulty • C-MIGITS in 21 minutes • Non-refueled flights from Ponca City to Colorado/Wyoming border • and Gulf of Mexico and return with several hours on station

  3. Although our choices of aircraft were limited in the wake of 9/11, Proteus is the right aircraft for near-term missions. ARM-UAV Program objectives • The ARM-UAV Program was established to… • Develop measurement techniques and instruments suitable for use • with the new class of small, high altitude, long endurance UAVs • Demonstrate these instruments and measurement techniques in • field measurement campaigns • Support the climate research community with valuable data sets • Foster the development of advanced UAVs… • …while utilizing the most appropriate aircraft at each stage of the program
