WHAT IS PEER TUTORING? • It is a FREE program offered to all students enrolled in CCRI. • The program has been offering student-to-student academic support in a wide range of disciplines, for nearly a quarter of a century. • Originally started under the management of the Division of Student Services; it is now offered through the Student Success Centers at all CCRI campuses. • Now that it has a central location, the tutors and students now have access to computers, and receives grant funds for support.

  6. In January 2005, the program had 70 tutors to its credit, and 3,000 students per year are requesting to be tutored. • The program is accredited by the College Reading and Learning Association. • You can receive one-on-one, or group tutoring. • Through the Peer Tutoring Web Site, there are various links to special tutoring web pages, providing an easy convenience while you are studying at home.

  7. WHO IS YOUR PEER TUTOR? • Your tutor will be a student currently enrolled at CCRI. • They must have completed the course, they are tutoring with at least a “B” average. • Must receive recommendations from an instructor, and work on becoming CRLA Certified. • Your paid student tutor must commit to 25 hours of tutoring, as well as 10 hours of CRLA workshops and training programs. • Remember the program is FREE to you, however your tutor is paid.

  8. WHAT IS CRLA? • CRLA stands for College Reading and Learning Association. • Student based organization supporting the fields of learning assistance, reading, developmental education and tutoring services. • All tutors must go through the extensive CRLA program, prior to becoming certified.

It has resources for English, Foreign Languages, Law, Mathematics, Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
