  1. Methodology of work towards FIA Prague

  2. Future Internet – challenges for research • FIA so far achieved to assemble important numbers of EU researchers working in Future Internet and obtained political support. • FIA is expected to continue to contribute to the preparation of the EU Future Internet research agenda (next ICT Work Programme, FP8): either through their white papers and /or by providing to the EC inputs on Future Internet interdisciplinary research challenges • FIA groups are thus encouraged to: • continue their work as planned in Madrid • streamline their results (white papers, requirements) and translate them to interdisciplinary research challenges Encouraged to contribute on both lines of work until FIA Prague

  3. Process to establish the research challenges (new line of work) • For building these research challenges FIA groups used “scenarios” as a tool. Scenarios help visualise the future and put in context how technologies will be used. • Scenarios have been categorised in 4 groups: Society Economy Short term Long term time

  4. Process to establish the research challenges (new line of work) – cnt’d • Scenarios represent functionalities of the Future Internet, which have certain (shorter and longer term) research challenges in order to be realised e.g. for a nomadic worker scenario, there is a need for a seamless ad-hoc connectivity functionality which might require an ad-hoc network infrastructure • Functionalities are collected and regrouped into an excel file (they will be sent to the FIA Caretakers soon) • Research challenges will be used as input to establish content of next ICT Work Programme • N.B.: at this stage the main effort is to populate with as many examples as possible the pool of functionalities / challenges rather than debate on the exact level of their granularity

  6. The way to FIA PragueTimetable 06 MAR Meeting on Integrated Scenarios & Functionalities 08 APR EC  FIA Caretakers: • Updated list of functionalities of the FI and first ideas for inter-disciplinary RTD priorities 24 APR FIA Caretakers  EC: • Feedback on inter-disciplinary RTD priorities + agenda of break-out session in Prague 29 APR Meeting with FIA Caretakers in Brussels [TBC] • Aim: Consolidate agenda Prague meeting + Inter-disciplinary research priorities 12-13 May FIA Prague • Aims: • Continue and finalise FIA work as planned in Madrid • Present the scenarios – functionalities – interdisciplinary RTD priorities to FIA participants and collect their feedback

  7. What is expected from each project • Plan participation in Prague and register at www.fi-prague.eu • Participate in actions agreed in Madrid to prepare for Prague • Provide feedback after 8 April on scenarios- functionalities – interdisciplinary research challenges • Come to Prague to discuss with your peers the research priorities for the next work programmes!
