  1. BUY THE TRUTH AND SELL IT NOT Prov 23:23

  2. The Importance Of Truth • We serve, worship God in truth Josh 24:14 Jn 4:24 • We speak to one another in truth Eph 4:25 • Truth sanctifies Jn 17:17

  3. The Importance Of Truth • Truth must be supported 1 Tim 3:15 • Truth must be handled rightly 2 Tim 2:15 • Truth must be believed 2 Thess 2:11-13 • Truth must be known 1 Tim 2:4 • Truth must be obeyed Rom 2:8

  4. The Importance Of Truth Why is TRUTH so important? Because only TRUTH will set us free Jn 8:31-32

  5. Truth Must Be Bought • Truth is a “commodity” to be purchased • The “truth” = the collective revealed commands, promises, & blessings of God • Why buy it? Because we need it to be saved, live the kind of life God desires us to live

  6. Truth Must Be Bought • We must buy only the truth • Not everything that is sold is as good as advertised…there are “counterfeits” • Truth is no exception to this danger • We must purchase carefully 2 Tim 3:1-9 • We must be like the Bereans Acts 17:11

  7. Truth Must Be Bought • We must buy all the truth • If you buy a car, you buy all of it…having only parts of it are not useful • Some treat the truth like a cafeteria line… picking and choosing what they want without consequence (they think)

  8. Truth Must Be Bought • We must buy all the truth • Some treat the truth like a cafeteria line… picking and choosing what they want • It is just as bad to buy only parts of truth as it is to not buy truth at all cp. Psa 119:160 2 Tim 3:16-17

  9. Truth Must Be Bought • We must buy all the truth • Some unbelievers reject teachings of truth re: baptism, nature & work of the church, acceptable worship of God, etc. • These and other items are clearly taught in “the truth”

  10. Truth Must Be Bought • We must buy all the truth • Some believers reject teachings of truth re: “appropriate” living for the Lord (immodesty, worldliness, importance of assembling, etc.) • These also are clearly taught in “the truth”

  11. Truth Must Be Bought • We must buy all the truth • This purchase must be made regardless of the cost cp. Lk 14:28-33 9:23 14:26 • Yes, it is a great price to pay • However, it will eventually cost us more if we do not pay it

  12. Truth Must Never Be Sold • We buy things with the intent that either… • …they won’t last long & will be replaced • …we won’t be satisfied and will sell • Truth fits into neither of these categories

  13. Truth Must Never Be Sold • Truth must be purchased as a “permanent investment” • It is not a “stock portfolio” to be managed, constantly buying & selling to maximize • It is a 1-time purchase to be made and then faithfully held on to

  14. Truth Must Never Be Sold • Nothing else can be bought that will successfully replace truth • We cannot trade it for a livelihood cp. Gen 25:27-34 Heb 12:15-17 • We cannot bargain it away for pleasure cp. Heb 11:24-26

  15. Truth Must Never Be Sold • Any attempt to sell it for something else in exchange would be our greatest disaster cp. Mt 16:26 Lk 12:15 • We have already established the link between the truth and the eternal soul (opening slides)

  16. Conclusion • An old saying… “Every man has his price.” • It may take more to buy one than it might take to buy someone else • Yet, eventually you can buy someone’s allegiance for the right amount • Some will do anything for the right price!!

  17. Conclusion • That philosophy will not govern those who have “bought truth” • Such ones are not for sale • They have purchased a commodity they deem more precious, valuable than anything anyone else could offer as a substitute

  18. Conclusion • Do you view truth this way? • If you do, never let it go…hang on to it • If you don’t, buy it right now…it’s available • It may be foreign to you, but you can eventually come to know it cp. Jn 18:37-38

  19. Conclusion • Yes, it will be costly to you • However, you can afford it • In fact, you cannot afford not to buy it • This “transaction” will determine your eternal destiny!!
