Recommendations • Subscribe to First Search as it provides one-stop searching of >70 databases in 15 topic areas • Based on the projected use for existing databases, First Search provides a coverage of more journals as compared to journals in current subscribed databases • Usage of existing databases which are used for projection of usage of FirstSearch databases = 8655 (those excluded in the calculation are Reuters, PQD ABI, PQD ARL, Law and Patent databases) • Thus, we should purchase from the 10 - 60 Blocks Pricing Structure which allows 5000 - 30,000 searches for US$1.00/search.

Recommendations • To continue subscription to ProQuest ABI as it is a popular database (which will cost more if we use First Search to access) • Shortcoming : First Search ABI covers 309 (19%) more journals than ProQuest ABI • We can block access to First Search databases that are not required. • Difference in prices = S$29,560 (Based on 27,612 accesses) - Proquest ABI - S$20,970 - First Search ABI - S$50,530

Recommendations • To stop subscription for ProQuest ASTP as First Search covers 917 (187%) more journals than ProQuest ASTP • Usage is low for ASTP • Difference in prices = S$19,464 (Based on 1551 accesses) - Proquest ASTP - S$22,302 - Wilson Full text Plus - S$2,838 • We pay S$19,464 less for 917 more journals • Out of 389 unique journals found in ProQuest ASTP, 381 of the titles (which are citations only) are found in Applied Science & Technology Abstracts in First Search

Recommendations • To retain ProQuest Academic Research Library as it covers 676 more journals than Wilson Select Full-Text Plus in First Search • Unique journals in Academic Research Library are not found in Arts Abstracts, Humanities Abstracts and Social Science Abstracts in First Search • By subscribing to Academic Research Library in Proquest, we are able to obtain PQD SiteBuilder to create dynamic links to full text articles in ProQuest (access through Site Builder password from Dec 2000 to Nov 2001 for ARL site = 316) • Access through SiteBuilder password for ARL, ABI & ASTP is 10,118 from Dec 2000 to Nov 2001
