  2. Case Study: • Current issue is that due to pollution, Kazakhstan is limited of fresh, clean water for people to use. It also affects the country’s agriculture for the contaminated water kills their crops. • In the future, water scarcity will be common throughout the country and it might cause war between Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

  3. Population Projection: • The population was estimated at 15,399,440 in 2009.

Demographics: • Life Expectancy – Male: 62.58years / Female:73.47years • Literacy Rate – 99.5% • GDP Per Capita- $11,500 • GDP (official exchange rate) - $107 billion • Major Industries • Chemical Processing • Copper Smelting • Forging and Pressing Machines • Iron and Steel • Mining • Oil Refining • Textiles

  5. Kazakhstan’s Physical Description: • Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world with a total area of 2,717,300 sq. km. • Kazakhstan is the largest landlocked country in the world. • The environment includes forest, desert, and mountainous regions

Physical Description continued… • The vegetation in Kazakhstan relies on the different climatic areas in the country, in the west it is a very hot desert region with low amounts of precipitation and plant life. In the west and forest regions there is more vegetation present. • Kazakhstan has nine natural reserves and the country takes great pride in their beauty

  7. Watershed: • A watershed isa ridge of high land dividing two areas that are drained by different river systems.

  8. Problem: • Strong agriculture in the dry regions around and within the Aral Sea watershed have turned aside the water that goes in the lake along the Amu Darya and Syr Darya. • The sea level at which the Aral is has dropped very significantly. • Because of this salinity has soared.
