  3. What is Running Start? The Running Start Program is an option where qualified Marquette Academy Juniors and Seniors have the opportunity to earn an Associate Degree from Illinois Valley Community College by the time of their high school graduation.

  4. Why should I enroll in Running Start? Time Savings- Have a Bachelor’s degree by the time you are 20. Ease of transition from High School to College—The transition between being a High School student and College student becomes seamless. Cost Savings— Most of the classes will be taken at half the cost* of standard IVCC tuition. *As of Spring 2014—subject to change

  5. Financial Benefits • IVCC has an extremely affordable tuition rate At $93.60* per credit hour. • Unfortunately, Financial Aid is not available for Dual Credit/Enrollment *As of Spring 2014-subject to change

  6. Course Delivery ·Dual Credit Courses · Dual Enrollment Courses · Additional IVCC on-line, evening, and summer courses during Junior and Senior years

  7. College Transcript It is important to be aware that dual credit students are beginning their official college transcript. Junior year in high school, freshman year of college!

  8. Associate Degree Due to the nature of a Liberal Arts and Sciences curriculum and to best ensure transfer to a four-year college or university, students take courses to satisfy the requirements of an Associate of Arts degree. It is a possibility to complete the Associate of Science as well, but will require extra coursework.

Admission Steps Pre-Selection Criteria • Attend information night and submit interest form (February) • Take IVCC Placement Test (before the April 8th Running Start Orientation) • Attend IVCC Running Start Orientation (April 8th) • Have and maintain a 3.0 high school GPA • Develop a plan of study with IVCC Counselor at first Marquette meeting

  10. AccuplacerIVCC’s Placement Test Placement testing is required in order to take a Math or English class

  11. Commitment ·Appropriate academic qualifications. ·High level of motivation. • ·Certain level of assertiveness. ·Adequate time to devote to studying and preparing for a college-level course.

  17. Is there a penalty discontinuing the program? • NO! We want you and your parents to be comfortable with the decision to participate in the Running Start program. • It is not an “all or nothing” approach, if you are starting to feel overwhelmed, reach out to your support system whether at Marquette or IVCC.

  18. If Running Start is not for you Dual credit classes will still be available to you at Marquette, and if you only take the classes offered at the high school, you could graduate with almost 30+ college credit hours
