This year in the Meridian School District Student Enrollment increases by 1728 • 15,535 students will attend one of 28 elementary schools – 986 more than attended last year • 7,127 students will attend one of 8 middle schools – 146 more than attended last year • 8,970 students will attend one of 7 high schools – 636 more than attended last year • The district has grown by 5,411 students in the last three years; if those students were their own school district, it would be the tenth largest district in the state

  3. This year in the Meridian School District Desert Sage Elementary Opens • Desert Sage Elementary is located in the Charter Point subdivision • Voters approved the construction of the school in September of 2005 • More than 500 students are attending this fall

  4. This year in the Meridian School District Prospect Elementary Opens • Prospect Elementary is located in the Copper Basin subdivision • Voters approved the construction of the school in September of 2005 • More than 630 students are attending

  5. This year in the Meridian School District Pathways Middle School Opens • The district’s second alternative middle school will open near Discovery Elementary • 75 students in 7th grade will attend this year • 150 students in grades 7 and 8 will attend next year

  6. This year in the Meridian School District Paramount Elementary • The construction of Paramount Elementary will be completed for fall 2007 • 650 students will be able to attend Paramount

  7. This year in the Meridian School District Heritage Middle School • Construction will continue at Heritage Middle School • Heritage Middle School will open fall 2007 • The school will hold 1000 students

  8. This year in the Meridian School District Rocky Mountain High School • Construction on Rocky Mountain will allow the school to open for fall 2008 • The school is designed for 1800 students • A parent committee will establish the attendance area for the school this fall

  9. This year in the Meridian School District Portable Buildings • New portable buildings purchased with proceeds from the fall 2005 bond will increase capacity at: • Star Elementary • Ustick Elementary • Donnell Elementary

  10. This year in the Meridian School District Artificial Turf • The first high school sporting events played on artificial turf in the state of Idaho will take place at Meridian High and Eagle High • The field improvements were paid for with nearly $1,000,000 in donations from parents and the community

  11. This year in the Meridian School District New Magnet School Programs • Christine Donnell School of the Arts will expand to 7th grade • A new art magnet school will offer classes to 6th graders at Lowell Scott Middle School • Pioneer Elementary School of the Arts will start its second year

This year in the Meridian School District Galileo Math and Science Magnet School • The curriculum for the Galileo magnet school will be completed this school year • Parents interested in sending students to the school will have the opportunity to enroll • Construction of the new facility will lead to the school opening for fall 2007 with space for 800 students

This year in the Meridian School District Teachers • This year our students will be taught by 1860 teachers; 175 are brand-new to the district. • 99% of these teachers are fully certified and highly qualified to teach in their subject area. • The average elementary teacher will earn $40,679, meaning their income ranks 40th out of the state’s 114 school districts. • The average secondary teacher will earn $40,506, ranking them 47th out of 114 districts.

This year in the Meridian School District Support Staff • Our teachers will be joined by 773 non-certified staff, the library aides, computer aids, special education aids, and bus drivers who work directly with students, plus the food service staff, custodians, and bus driver • The custodians will clean and maintain 4,060,000 square feet of building space and 755 acres of lawn • The food service staff will serve 3,848,000 meals, approximately 21,000 per day. • More than 700 substitutes will teach in our classrooms 17,991 days

  15. This year in the Meridian School District Transportation • Bus drivers transport 14,500 students to school on 262 buses each day • The bus fleet will log more than 3,000,000 miles • 18 of the buses are brand new; the oldest among the fleet first hit the road in 1987

  21. This year in the Meridian School District Student Achievement • On the 10th grade Idaho Achievement Standards tests in Reading, Math, and Language Arts, a higher percentage of students are either Proficient of Advanced than any of the 8 largest districts in the state.

This year in the Meridian School District Financial Data The districts central office and 43 schools will be managed by 112 administrators, making Meridian Joint School District’s administrative costs the second lowest in the state of Idaho The district’s revenue per pupil will be $4,790. Only two district’s receive less per pupil; the state average is $5,800 per student
