Other Health Impairment • Having limited strength, vitality or alertness, including a heightened sense of sensitivity to environmental stimuli, that results in limited alertness with respect to the educational environment • Is due to chronic or acute health problems such as asthma, attention deficit disorder or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, diabetes, epilepsy, a heart condition, hemophilia, lead poisoning, leukemia, nephritis, rheumatic fever, or sickle cell anemia • Adversely affects a child’s educational performance

Specific learning disability • Illinois requires the use of a process based on scientific, research-based interventions as part of the evaluation procedures for SLD. • The 8 areas are the only academic areas inclusive of SLD. It is required that student data focus on achievement, not processing data. • Areas of Learning Disabilities • Basic Reading Skills • Reading Fluency Skills • Reading Comprehension • Mathematical Calculation • Mathematical Problem Solving • Written Expression • Oral Expression • Listening Comprehension

  10. Specific Learning Disability • Exclusionary Criteria: • Student’s difficulties cannot be the result of other factors • Visual, hearing, or motor disability • Emotional disability • Cultural factors • Environmental or Economic factors • Limited English Proficiency

Autism Spectrum Disorder • Developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction, evident before age three, that adversely affects the child’s educational performance. • Typical characteristics: repetitive activities and stereotyped movements, resistance to environmental change or change in daily routines, and unusual responses to sensory experiences. • The term does not apply if a child’s educational performance is adversely affected primarily because the child has an emotional disturbance.
