  3. A long history of cooperation… SIGMA-AJAX spectrometer at IHEP Protvino in 1970s A 600 MeV/c antiproton interacts with a neon nucleus in the streamer chamber of the PS179 experiment at CERN’s Low Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR) in 1980s

ATLAS Muons • Muon Drift Tubes (MDT) construction – collaboration with Frascati • Micro Megas (MM upgrade) production center (1/ 4 total) • RPC maintenance during LS1 (2/3 manpower) – gas leaks repair • RPC R&D and gas studies for new chambers • Other interests on Tile cal (hadronic calorimeter) Nadia Pastrone

  6. CMS – Drift Tubes and JINR Everything started in 1998…. The CMS DT collaboration was looking for a manufacturer of the Electrode Strip Deposition for the Muon DT System construction • ~3600 Al plates of ~10 m2 each • Deposition of ~1000 km Al strips on top of ~1000 km of Mylar strips • HV test • Logistics Work organized by the INFN Torino group who also designed and built all the production tools

Flavour Physics • LHCb: preparing for major upgrade to be completed by 2018 • IT: Muon chambers (GEM), RICH (sensors/electronics), fast networking, trigger • BES-III: running successfully • IT: ZDC, cylindrical GEM chamber • BaBar: • IT: Data analysis still in progress • NA62: completing detector construction • IT: all aspects of detector • KLOE2: running with upgraded detector at DAFNE Nadia Pastrone

Kaon Physics (NA48/1/2 - NA62) • JINR Dubna10-15 collaborators - INFN 20-30 collaborators • Vladimir KekelidzeNA48/2 spokesperson • NA48: calorimeter cryostat (ISTC proposal approved in 1993) • NA48/1: drift chambers maintenance and read-out system beam spectrometer with micromegas. Simulations and pile-up studies • NA62: straw chambers production for magnetic spectrometer •  Straw chambers built in Dubna with CMS

Charged Lepton Physics • MEG (JINR build drift chamber and beam instrumentation) • Major upgrade construction 2013-2015 • IT: Tracking chamber, timing counters, active target • Mu2E • Preparing for construction to start ~ 2016 • IT: LYSO calorimeter, SiPM, veto system • New g-2 experiment at FNAL • Preparing for construction starting 2016  data taking 2017 • IT: Calorimeter calibration, (possibly) tracking Nadia Pastrone

JINR provided relevant contribution on the R&D phase and on the realization and test of different prototypes in the following points: • - characterization of crystals LY and response uniformity (LYSO) • - study of linearity of response with different rad. Sources (LYSO) • - work on DAQ for preparation of data taking for 2013-2015 test beams. • - preparation of two scintillating crystals with SiPM readout for test beam triggering • - procurement of undopedCsI crystals from ISMA (Kharkov, Ukraine) • - procurement of BaF2 crystals from INCROM (St. Petersburg, Russia) • - participation to the long test beam campaigns at BTFs (LNF), MAMI (Mainz) • - Simulation study for test beam • - Simulation study of response for Hexagonal vs Square crystals Mu2e (R&D)

Collaboration expected to be extended in 2016-2019 for: •  Characterization of crystals/photosensors for the pre-production phase •  Irradiation of “samples” of crystals at DUBNA •  Active participation of calorimeter assembly •  Possible procurement of fraction of crystals (still under evaluation/discussion) • to compensate DOE reduction on outermost rings •  Possible procurement of FEE/WFD (still under evaluation/discussion) • to compensate DOE reduction on outermost rings •  Work on FEE, WFD tests •  DAQ development INFN-JINR coll. for Mu2e (Next steps)

COMPASS Measurement of spin structure functions • RUNNING and upgrade construction in progress • IT: absorber for DY, RICH chambers (TGEM) Many joined contribution: • MWPCs (chambers - Dubna, eletctronics - Torino) • MuonWall1 (detector + analog fron-end- Dubna, digital front-end – Torino) • RichWall (detector - Dubna contract payed by INFN, electronics – Torino) • Fisica: joined collaboration on Primakoff analysis and polarized Drell-Yan Nadia Pastrone

Current JINR-INFN works and future (1) INFN/Pisa: • Explosion welding R&D’s to manufacture the Ti,Nb + Stainless Steel tubes joint for cryomodules in new generation superconducting linacs and linear colliders LiN and LiHe tests in Pisa, FNAL, Dubna, Sarov, Kiev. • Continuation of the CDF/FNAL data analysis for c,b,t-quarks involved processes • Detector R&D’s to built and test the new generation heavy crystals hodoscopic calorimeters prototype to search for and study rare muon decays (MU2E experiment at FNAL).   21. Current JINR-INFN works and future (2) INFN/Bologna The search for the global thermalization effects and their study in the very high multiplicity processes in the CDF data. Bologna, Dubna, Bratislava INFN/Frascati New generation detector R&D’s to create high resolution heavy crystals hodoscopic calorimeter to search for and study rare muon decays (MU2E experiment at FNAL). JINR, Frascati, FNAL, Pisa, Kharkov (Ukraine) Nadia Pastrone

HL-LHC • R&D ongoing towards TDR in 2017-2018 • Scope documents to be discussed with CERN @ October RRB • ATLAS/CMS full upgrade cost ~ 270 MCHF • INFN CORE contribution ~ 40 MCHF overall (no computing) • PHASE 2: plenty of room to collaborate, both on detectors, computing and analysis, prototyping before big constructions start in: • Pixel and strip silicon sensors and related FE/trigger electronics • Muon tracking chambers and trigger counters • Other trigger and FE/DAQ electronics • Software architectures • ……….
