Summary 17 middle schools** 20 CDF’s 4 CDF district coordinators: Teresa Davis: Bryson Hillcrest Lakeview Mauldin Woodmont *Marjorie Dowd: Beck Greenville Hughes League Sevier *Marilyn Nasiatka: Blue Ridge Greer Northwood Riverside Tanglewood Nancy Roddy: Berea Northwest *nationally-certified CDF instructors **Lakeview MS did not receive a state allocation for the CDF position due to acceptable student-guidance ratio

  3. Greenville CountyCDF Instruction Schedule • 1st & 3rd Thursdays, 1-4pm – “C.I.” competency instruction • 2nd & 4th Thursdays, 2-4pm – “O-J-T” on-the-job-training • 120 hours completed by June 30, 2007 • Approx. 1 year experience completed by June 6th

Competency Instruction for National Certification 12 competencies, not Middle School focused 120-hours coursework, useful in a variety of work environments Job-seeking & job-keeping skills, focusing on a lifelong process Work within community agencies to assist adults in career planning Career development facilitation NOT career counseling O-J-T in a Greenville County Middle School On-the-Job training, based on district’s priorities Assist with career development in a school-based environment EEDA implementation focusing on assessments, career clusters and IGP in middle grades Integrate career development activities into academic curriculum Career development facilitation NOT career counseling C.I. vs. O-J-T

  5. Typical CDF Tasks in a MS setting • Assist with advisor/advisee, integrating career development activities • Prepare students prior to administering any career assessment (formal/informal) • Administer & interpret formal online career assessments (SCOIS & Kuder) • Assist with IGP preparation

  6. Typical CDF Tasks (cont.) • Inform teachers & students on clusters • Organize shadowing (assist with classroom activities for before and after the experience, along with connecting activities) • Organize career fairs / career speakers • Establish business partnerships • Connect school to work

  7. Requirements for National Certification(A 5-Step Process:) 1. Successful completion of nationally-approved CDF curriculum (120 hours documented) 2. Completion of a combination of education and experience: Masters degree = 1 year career development exp. Bachelors degree = 2 years career development exp.

  8. A 5-Step Process - continued • 3. Agreement to follow the ethical guidelines for CDFs • 4. Application to the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) • 5. Payment of a fee: • Full 5-year certification is $100.00 • CDF certification is valid for a five-year period with an annual maintenance fee of $25.00
