  2. October 30, 2013 Gabby came to the conference prepared with a question. Gabby said, “I don’t know how to do this.” Mr. Ried said, “What do you know?” Gabby said, “First Jeffrey told me to multiply 3 x 3 x 3 because there is a 3 here.” Mr. Ried said, “That is correct but you also need to multiply n2x n2 x n2”

  3. Gabby’s 1st solution 1st Gabby saw the exponent 3. 2nd Gabby rewrote what was inside the parenthesis 3 times because of the exponent. 3rd Gabby used Genesis’ rule (laws of exponents) and multiplied the coefficients and added the exponents.

  4. Gabby’s Rule After finding the correct answer Gabby noticed a pattern. She saw that if she multiplied the exponents: 2 x 3 = 6 x When you have a term inside parenthesis and it has a exponent outside you need to multiply the exponents and simplify.
