  1. PIP Update Oct 15th 2014

  2. Agenda • Accelerator Advisory Committee Review • Oct 14-16 • PIP presented Tues morning (summary, linac vulnerability mitigation, Booster RF cavities, Booster losses) • PIP II this morning along with effect on Booster and PIP • DOE Review • Some time in CY16; same as ACC review • Updates

  3. 2-5 Minute Updates • Linac Modulator • Linac Klystron • LinacNotcher • Booster Notcher • Cogging • Booster BPM & Dampers • Refurbishment • Bias Supplies • Anode Supplies • Transformers • Vacuum Systems • TLMs

  4. Laser Notcher StatusOctober 15, 2014 from D Johnson • Optical cavity • Developed technique for alignment of optical cavity mirrors • Installed OC/VC in MEBT, test laser set up, readback’s in ACNET • Looking at building spare (with improvements) to work with in the lab • Optical Pattern Generator • New seed source ordered (better matched to Nd:YAG gain spectrum, improved stability) • RF amplifier failure- new one ordered • Fiber Amplifier • Components for LMA replacement of 2W amplifier in hand • Working with vendor to validate operation and start conversion • Final fiber amplifier in hand • Free Space Amplifier • P.O. for amplifier modules should be placed by end of week • Beam Shaping • Technology chosen, documenting choice • Looking at configuration to implement both techniques • Timing/Controls • Timing specifications done

  5. Booster Notcher StatusOctober 15, 2014 from S Chaurize • Short notching magnets are all installed at Long 12. • Spare magnet testing in progress • New power supply system has pulsed newly installed magnets loads • Need time today to tune up system. • S12 corrector installed with 20mm offset flange to provide aisle side aperture for kicked bunches. • L13 absorber has insert installed in front of upstream side jaw to intercept tails from notched beam bunches.

  6. Vacuum StatusOctober 15, 2014 from D Augustine • Linac • Installed new valves, gauges on each side of the valves, turbos pumps and scrool pumps in the 400 mev area. • These are cabled to outside the tunnel and we now have a readout  that can be piped to the Allen Bradley controller. • We did not install the last large blower skid, we ran out of time • The gauges, cables and controllers are not installed on the low energy Linac. We do not have them yet. The vendor will ship at the end of October. These will be installed next shutdown • Booster • Installed new turbo pumps at periods 11,12,19,20,21,22,23,24,1, & 2. • We already had 17 and 18. This is half the ring at this point. • VB 23, a new gate vale was also installed. There is one left to install if memory serves. • All of the turbo pumps are cabled to the outside world and function. • Next shutdown we will do the other half of the ring.

  7. Updated October 7, 2014 by K Gollwitzer

  8. Post Meeting Notes by Gollwitzer - 1 • Modulator • Changed to a dual capacitors • Chassis should arrive soon • Trevor is to work on feed-forward circuit board • LinacNotcher – Peter P to build timing board • Booster BPM • Testing new VXS digitizer with new linux based FE • Spec almost done – working on analog board • Main decision left is option on how to handle frequency sweep • Hope to hold mini-review next month

  9. Post Meeting Notes by Gollwitzer - 2 • Booster Longitudinal Damper • Not much success with beam transfer function measurements • Simulations performed • Suggest better scheme for BTF • Done by end of CY14 • Bias Supplies • Upgraded supplies in RF stations 5 & 11 • 3rd unit failed hard during high power testing • Moved back to low power test stand to diagnois • 4th unit remains untouched (~75% done) • Pat is contacting EE tech about return date

  10. Post Meeting Notes by Gollwitzer - 3 • Refurbishment • 13th cavity installed into tunnel • Remaining non-refurbished cavities only West • East cavities will be operated at 15 Hz • Next cavity • 3rd tuner failed electrical test • Expect to be ready for testing mid/late next week • Cones • 6 Al to be potted • 40 Al casted; purchase reqpreped for maching • Some Cu could be made usable…. • New Tuners – ferrite vendor delivery 11/21

  11. Post Meeting Notes by Gollwitzer - 4 • Anode Supplies • Housingon truch; to arrive Thur; unload Fri • Power Resistor to be worked upon • Will be made to work with current controls • To be built in series • 1st to take ~6 weeks; then test • Transformers • Linac in operation • Booster West installed and good • Trip unit replaced; spare ordered; working with Seimens to replace failed unit • Booster East working both options • New switchgear or make a throat • Once ready, either could take 2 days to install
