  1. MGS 3040-05 Text Pages-150-151 GROUP E Scudiero, Samantha Timpson, Pablo Torstrup, James Yasin, Modassar ETHICS: Nobody Said I Shouldn’t

  2. Where did Kelly go wrong? • Kelly went wrong went she decided to copy one of the company's database backups to a CD and take it home.

  3. Do you think it was illegal, unethical, or neither for Kelly to take the database home and query the data? • I think it was illegal for Kelly to take the database home and query the data because it belonged to the company, not her.

  4. Does the company share culpability with Kelly? • No, the company doesn’t share any culpability with Kelly because Kelly didn’t ask anyone if it was ok to copy the data and take it home, the company took actions just to protect its data from getting into wrong hands.

  5. What do you think Kelly should have done upon discovering the odd pattern in Jason’s orders? • Kelly should’ve went to the company and told about the odd numbers she saw. She would’ve not got fired if she went straight to the company to let them be aware of what she found.

  6. What should the company have done before firing Kelly? • The company should have done a thorough investigation into the matter, rather than have doing none whatsoever. Even though Kelly is at fault too, she could have shed light onto the situation by coming forward and presenting the information she discovered.

  7. Is it possible that someone other than Jason is involved in the arrangement with Valley Appliances? What should Kelly have done in light of that possibility? • It is possible that someone from Valley Appliances was also in on the arrangement, but I don’t think Kelly should have come forward with that information as it could possibly ruin any relationship the company has with Valley Appliances.

  8. What should Kelly do now? • She should learn from her mistakes  • Keep her head up and look for a fresh start  • Attempt to find another job

  9. Metadata • Metadata makes databases easy to use for both the authorized and unauthorized purposes which can be good or bad.   • Having an easy manageable database is important but it is paramount to have the right protection such as password protection from other users that should not have access to it in order to ensure information protection.
