  1. We all fall down: Living with Addition By Nic Sheff Yuet Tsang (Shishei) Nicole Li Eliza Ly Maggie Sin Ellen Phun

  2. “No matter how many times we fall, we can pick ourselves up again.” -Nic Sheff

  3. Summary • It’s Nic Sheff’s second memoir about his own life during the period of his drug addition. • The memoir begins when he is 23 years old in 2005. He just broke up with his girlfriend Zelda and they were both sent to different rehabs.

  4. Summary • Nic went to The Safe Passage Center in Arizona. • Nic then met a new girl in rehab named Sue Ellen, who was involved in most of the memoir, and started a new life with her in Charleston, South Carolina.

  5. Summary • After that, he again fell for the drugs and started becoming an alcoholic. • At last, he adapted a dog named Tallulah and it became another turning point in his life. Tallulah helped him go through rehab in California and he stayed away from all the addiction he had.

  6. Drug addict history • Nic started using alcohol and drugs even before teen years. • He was an active user of ecstasy and cocaine. • He involved in destructive behaviors: selling drugs, working as a prostitute to support his addiction. • Faced with the choice of going to jail or rehab, he dropped out of college and went into rehab. • He was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

  7. Why did he write the book? "I guess it was sort of therapy for me or something. And I think it was also a way of trying to make my experiences meaningful.” -Nic Sheff

  8. While reading… • While reading this book… • There is a lot of profanity used. • It showed Nic’s addiction as a cycle that will keep coming back. • We can tell that Nic’s speech and actions are often affected by his addiction. • For example, he keeps saying that his rehab counselor is treating him badly, but it may be his rebellious mind under the affect of drugs that makes him look at things negatively.
