  2. What is a flood? Flooding is an over flowing of water onto land that is normally dry. Rivers can't hold any more water and they over flow. It covers farms and destroys crops. Water gets in homes and buildings.

  3. Causes of Floods • Floods happen when there is too much water. • Storms, hurricanes, and even snow can make Floods. • A Flood occurs when water flows over areas that are normally dry. • Floods happen when water from rivers, lakes, rainstorms, or the ocean covers land that is normally dry. • Floods can happen wherever water flows. Floods can even happen in mountains and deserts.

  4. Effects offloods .Excessive water flows over land. .Sever floods may  cause injuries, deaths, and property damages. .Water flows over rods to make it hard to drive.  Flood water is very dirty it can contain sewage and harmful  chemicals. Faucet water must be boiled.

Interesting facts about Floods • Floods causes more damage than any other natural disaster. • When China's River flooded in 1931, as many as 3.7 million people died. • It only takes six inches of moving water to knock you off your feet. • Water is unsafe to drink after a Flood. It can carry disease.

Flood vocabulary • Flood inspector: • Someone who is trained to check building's gas line and power line for safety after a flood. • Power out  age •       Power outage; A loss          of electricity  Dike:      A barrier next to a river toprevent flooding. Some dikes are permanent and others are not. Flash Flood: A sudden rush of watercaused by heavy rainfall.
