  1. EXTREME COUPONING

Presented by Amber Paxton City of Lansing Office of Financial Empowerment 517.483.4530 amber.paxton@lansingmi.gov For use in the Lansing Community College, Business & Community Institute Personal and Consumer Finance course for the City of Lansing Financial Empowerment Center.
  2. Today we will cover: Getting started – where are the resources? Amber’s Top Tips The magic of combining sales with coupons What to watch out for so you do not waste money Get Rite-Aid to pay YOU! Questions
  3. Getting Started Where are the resources? www.krazycouponlady.com (“like” them on Facebook!) Your Sunday newspaper, OR www.smartsource.com and www.redplum.com, OR both! www.coupons.com and www.couponnetwork.com www.meijermadness.com Proctor and Gamble coupons in your Sunday paper, usually the last Sunday of the month Download coupons from Meijer.com (mPerks) and Kroger.com
  4. Getting Started Where are the resources? "Catalinas" aka “register rewards” aka "Your Bucks" Meijer and Kroger use the same Catalinas! Go to www.couponnetwork.com and click on "Your Bucks Offers". These are money OYNO (“on your next order”) but you can use them as separate transactions on the same trip.
  5. Amber’s Top Tips If you “Buy One Get One Free”, you are buying TWO items – use TWO coupons! Clip and organize everything, THEN look at the store’s weekly ad and THEN look for coupons and make list. Be organized – use an envelope or binder system and clean it out regularly – preferably every week. What’s for dinner = what’s on sale! Buy grocery items ONLY at the grocery store, and drugstore items ONLY at the drug store (mostly!) Stockpile, stockpile, stockpile!
  6. The Magic of Combining Sales with Coupons You can “stack” one manufacturer’s coupon and one store coupon AND a sale price – the “perfect storm.” Remember to use more than one coupon wherever possible and to use double coupons (Meijer will double up to .50 – so will Kroger but must have a Kroger card). Kroger will not allow you to combine any other coupon with a digital coupon – with Meijer, print out your mPerks list and check whether they are store or manufacturer.
  7. What to watch out for so you donot waste money… If you don’t need it, don’t buy it – unless it is FREE. That said, use couponing to buy things you would otherwise consider “not in your budget”. Watch the screen as your order is being rung up – I’ve caught mistakes more times than I can count! Know the store’s policy about “stacking” Know, before you enter the store, how many of each item you’ll be purchasing If your coupons do not work for whatever reason, do NOT be shy about asking them to return the item.
  8. Get Rite-Aid to pay YOU! Get a Rite-Aid +Up Rewards card and use it every time you shop – I have earned so many points on my card that I now receive 10% off of every purchase. The card alone will get you 10% off anything that is Rite-Aid Brand Use www.krazycouponlady.com and the Rite-Aid circular to identify items with +Up Rewards Know the item number limit Using this system you could have purchased:
