  1. EXECUTIVE ROUNDTABLE SERIES Real-Time Global Aircraft Tracking, Data Management, and Flight Route Optimization TAMDAR: Civil Aviation Benefits Bruce L. Lev, Vice Chairman AirDat LLC

  2. Overview • AirDat LLC has developed and deployed a proprietary atmospheric observing system called TAMDAR (Tropospheric Airborne Meteorological Data Reporting) • The TAMDAR system delivers a unique real-time high resolution data stream for improved atmospheric analysis and weather forecasting • Key components of the system include an aircraft mounted sensor, dedicated global satcom, and ground processing systems • Our satcom solution provides real-time global tracking of aircraft, as well as voice and data communication with each aircraft at all times • This real-time global communication capability is flexible, and allows retrieval of aircraft performance/systems information • The system has been in operation on commercial aircraft since 2004

  3. TAMDAR supports global aviation initiatives:

  5. The TAMDAR® system The TAMDAR system comprises: • Patented atmospheric sensor • Installed on commercial aircraft • Real-time global satellite data link • Meteorological data to AirDat • Aircraft data to airline (systems, text, voice) • Dedicated secure data center • Automated QA and processing systems • Customized weather forecasts and applications • High resolution models and computing resources

  6. The patented TAMDAR® sensor Measures and reports: • Turbulence (EDR, median and peak) • Ice presence • Static pressure and pressure altitude • Air temperature (Mach corrected) • Relative humidity • Indicated and true airspeed • Winds aloft • GPS lat/long/alt/time • Add’l sensing capabilities possible • Global real-time aircraft tracking • Global data and voice channel

  10. Application to aviation safety, security and operations • Real-time reporting and mapping of hazardous conditions, by altitude • Icing • Turbulence • Winds • High-resolution ground forecasts (improved TAFs, etc) • Convective activity • Surface winds (gust potential, wind shear) • Precipitation • Icing • Fog • Comprehensive real time ascent/descent atmospheric soundings • Aircraft position reporting (global) • Independent satellite voice and data communication channel • Permanent data archive (weather and airframe) • Non-weather airline support (OOOI, sat voice, data ,etc) • Real-time DFDR reporting (scheduled or event-based)
