  2. Learning Objectives By the end of the session we will be able: To understand the steps in place to ensure readiness for Year 1 To understand our transition process into Year 1

  3. Topics for the year. 2012-2013

  4. Term 3 Literacy Main areas of focus are: • Writing • Writing of common and irregular words independently • Writing of sentences, beginning to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. • Reading • Decoding regular and irregular words when reading • Understanding some of the features of non-fiction texts and how we can use books to find information

  5. Term 3 Literacy Main areas of focus are: • Leaping into Level 1 • Writing • Children beginning to produce their own ideas for writing – such as in a story • Beginning to include descriptive or ‘WOW’ words in their writing • Reading • Begin to make simple predictions about the text • Begin to discuss a story – saying what they think and why they feel the way they do.

Term 3 Mathematics Main areas of focus are: • Number • Counting, ordering, using numbers to 20 • Solving problems including doubling, halving and sharing • Shape, Space and Measure • Using everyday language to talk about money • Describing 2D and 3D shapes – exploring their characteristics • Solving problems related to weight, size, position, distance, capacity etc

  7. Term 3 Mathematics Main areas of focus are: • Leaping into Level 1 • Number • Writing numbers to 10 • Beginning to identify and understand ‘one half’ • Counting in 2’s to 10 • Shape, Space and Measure • Identifying some characteristics of 2D and 3D shapes • Beginning to understand symmetry.

Term 3 – Other Curriculum Areas • Exploring the world around us – making comparisons, discussing differences • Investigating different materials • Trip – Jam Jar and Souks • PSED- Super Sprowtz – pilot of healthy eating scheme of work to encourage children to eat a range of fruit and vegetables • PSED – changes – linked to the transition to Year 1.

  9. Strategies to support transition For children Parent Council meeting Fortnightly assemblies Weekly visits to Year 1 Specialist teachers coming to work with children. Playtimes in the Year 1 playground Teachers handover processes

  10. Strategies to support transition For parents Class splits. Home Learning task to choose friends to allow for more parental involvement. Class lists shared with parents before reports are sent home Requests to teachers by Tuesday 7th May

  11. Visits, projects and special days FS Graduation Ceremonies, 1pm in Meeting Room: Sunday 8th June – FS2A Monday 9th June – FS2B Tuesday 10th June – FS2C Wednesday 11th June – FS2D Thursday 12th June – FS2E (12-1) Sunday 15th June – FS2F Tuesday 17th June – FS2G Wednesday 18th June – FS2H
