  1. Blog1: Bornagainpews.com CHURCH PEWS – DID YOU KNOW? Themes and traditions makes interior designing a very important factor for our prayer houses. And read on to travel back in time as we relive the history on how it was back then. #1 Prayers at home When there were no churches yet, the celebrations of “the breaking of the bread” (Acts 2:46) would be hosted by a fellow friend. Everyone would gather and long bed - like cushions would be set up for everyone to lean on while they have their meals. And this is where the idea of church pews were born. #2 Keep standing When the church buildings were introduced, a person would be required to be standing throughout the service or kneel. Sitting was not yet an acceptable form of offering your prayers. #3 Own it The parishioners began to fund pews and place it at the church, and treat them as private possessions. Pews bore the name of its owner to ensure no one is mistaken. #4 Rent In those times, if you cannot afford the seat, you can easily rent one. Once you have rented one, you can now use the space at any point of time for different types of services in the church. #5 Not only comfort Right from a simple one to the intricately carved ones, church pews have now become item of décor along with the various furnishings in the church. Church pews have been in the tradition for years in the past, but with the current trend of replacing pews with chair, we need to protect the tradition behind a pew which cannot be replaced at any point. So opt for church pews rather than fall for the option of chairs.
