  1. If the sun was a grapefruit The story of the solar system using everyday objects By: Gagan Rampur and Samson Doong

  2. Explanation This model is to demonstrate how immense the distances between the bodies in our solar system are. Directions Gather the materials from the shopping list. Place objects according to the different slides.

  3. Shopping list 1 large yellow grape fruit 1 box of salt 1 box of granulated raw sugar 1 cherry tomato 1 small green grape 2 small frozen peas 1 box of baking soda 1 orange 3 rolls gauze bandage 25 ft. long tape measure

  4. Mercury If the sun was a grapefruit, mercury would be a small grain of salt 18 ft. away from the grapefruit.

  5. Venus If the sun was a grapefruit, Venus would be a grain of raw sugar 34 ft. away from the grapefruit and 16 ft. away from Mercury.

  6. Earth If the sun was a grapefruit, Earth would be the size of a grain of raw sugar 50 ft. away from the grapefruit and 16 ft. away from Venus.

  7. Mars If the sun was a grapefruit, Mars would be the size of a grain of salt 75 ft. away from the sun and 25 ft. away from Earth.

  8. Ceres If the sun was a grapefruit, Ceres would be a speck of dust 150 ft. away from the sun and 75 ft. away from Mars.

  9. Jupiter If the sun was a grapefruit, Jupiter is a cherry tomato 240 feet away from the sun and 90 feet away from Ceres.

  10. Saturn If the sun was a grapefruit, Saturn would be the size of a green grape 420 ft. away from the sun and is 180 ft. away from Jupiter.

  11. Uranus If the sun was a grapefruit, Uranus would be the size of a frozen green pea 300 yards away and is 160 yards away from Saturn.

  12. Neptune If the sun was a grapefruit, Neptune would be another frozen green pea 470 yds. Away from the sun and is 170 yds. away from Uranus.

  13. Pluto If the sun was a grapefruit, Pluto would be a speck of baking soda 532 yds. away from the sun and 62 yds. away from Neptune.

  14. Haumea • If the sun was a grapefruit, Haumea would be a speck of baking soda 570 yds. away from the sun and 38 yds. away from Pluto.

  15. Makemake If the sun was a grapefruit , then Makemake would be a piece of baking soda 612 yds. Away from the grapefruit and 42 yds. away from Haumea.

  16. Eris If the sun was a grapefruit, Eris would be a speck of baking soda 900 yds. away from the sun and 288 yds. away from Makemake.

  17. The Great Comet of 1843 If the sun was a grapefruit, the comet’s tail would be 3 rolls of gauze tied together to make one piece that is 70 ft. long.

  18. Proxima Centauri If the sun was a grapefruit, Proxima Centauri would be a orange 2400 miles away from the sun and is 4,223,100 yards away from Eris. Proxima Centauri Sun

  19. Dedications We would dedicate this slide show to our wonderful teacher, Mr. Cayce, for without him this couldn’t have been possible.
