  1. 3-12-13 Surface Area of Prisms EQ: When would you need to know the surface area of a Rectangular prism? How do you figure out how much paint You need to paint a room or a house? Why is this skill Important? BOP: Simplify 33 + 23 DWP: What is the surface area of a cube that measures 7 cm on each edge? Draw a net. 7 cm

  2. Check homework Handout on percent given after the test. Review of percent problems:  Math textbook page 336, #1-4, all; problems #6-24 even

  3. Rules for manipulatives: We will be using centimeter cubes to make cubes and rectangular prisms and making nets of prisms. 1.Use these cubes and other items as tools to help you understand surface area and volume. Make sure you return the same number of cubes you were given. Clean up all materials. 4. Hands off when told to listen.

  4. Make a table:

  5. Build a 2 x 2 x 2 cube and find the surface area. Draw and record your findings in your notes. Surface Area ___________

  6. Build a cube whose length, width and height is 3 x 3 x 3 cm. Find the surface area of the cube. Draw and record your findings. 3 cm 3 cm 3 cm

  7. Build a cube that is 4 X 4 X 4cm in length, Draw and record your findings in your notes. 4 cm 4 cm 4 cm

  8. Make a table:

  9. Why is area measured in square units? Why is volume measures in cubic units?

  10. Today’s task:(Record your work in a table.) Make one net of a rectangular prism (make sure it folds into a rectangular prism) 2. Measure in centimeters the length, width and height. RECORD MEASUREMENT! On your net label all measurements. Calculate and Record the Surface Area (Total area of each rectangle) 5. Measure and record information for 7 other rectangular prisms.

  11. Make the table below on your paper. Measure in centimeters

  12. SMILEY FACE METHOD FOR FINDING SURFACE AREA

  13. Summary: Describe what you have learned about surface area. Homework: Math Textbook page 337, #25-30 all; page 338, #32-42 even

  14. 3-13-13 Surface area and volume of rectangular prisms EQ: How do you find surface area and volume of a rectangular prism? What’s the difference between surface Area and volume?

  15. SMILEY FACE METHOD FOR FINDING SURFACE AREA

  16. Summary: Write three to five sentences that describe what you have learned about finding surface area and volume. Explain when would you use your knowledge of calculating surface area and volume in the real world. Homework: Math Textbook page 341 - Cumulative Assessment, Chapters 1-6 Show all work for each problem; do not just write the letter of the correct answer. BRING A CAN FOR PI DAY!
