  2. Community College Mission The California Community Colleges shall, as a primary mission, offer academic and vocational instruction at the lower division level for both younger and older students, [from California Education Code Section 66010.4 (a) , as of 10/19/99]

  3. Community College Transfer Fact • California Community College Transfer Students are given the highest admission consideration in the UC and CSU systems!

UC and CSU Transfer Statistics • 2 of 3 students earning a degree from CSU began at a CCC. • In Fall 2004, 81% of Community College Transfers were admitted to a UC campus! • Transfers are performing well at UC. • First-year persistence rate is over 92%. • Over 69% graduate after 3 years at UC; 80% graduate after 4 years. • These rates are similar to, or greater than, those achieved by native UC freshman.

  8. Transfer Myths & Misconceptions • The two year college is a waste of my time. All I will take is “bone head” classes. • Going to a CCC is going to hurt my transfer opportunities. • If I take longer than 2 years at a CCC, it looks bad on my college application. • I’m going to do my GE and get outta here. • I didn’t do well on my SAT or ACT. I think this may limit where I can go. • I plan on staying at the community college 1 year and transferring.
