  6. Document Upload Cleveland State University Cleveland-Marshall College of Law

  7. The following are types of documents that you will be able to upload into Symplicity, as the following slides explain: • Resume • Cover Letters • List of References • Writing Samples

  8. Important notes about document uploading: • You may upload many different documents in the system, allowing for individual cover letters, multiple writing samples, etc. • When you upload documents into Symplicity, the system will convert your document from Word or WordPerfect into a .pdf format. You must review the .pdf before submitting your document to ensure that the formatting has converted properly!

  9. To begin uploading, click on “Documents” at the top of the screen, next to the “Profile” tab. 1

  10. From the main documents screen, click on “Add New.” 1

  11. Check the circle next to type of document that you want to upload, e.g. “Resume”. 1

  12. Give your resume an appropriate name in the Label section. Make it a name that you will easily recognize later and that sounds appropriate for employers. 1

  13. Using the “Browse” button locate the Word or WordPerfect version of your resume. After selecting the file, click “Submit”. 1 2

  14. A screen will appear requesting you to wait for your file conversion to .pdf. Wait for the upload and conversion to finish completely before continuing.

  15. Eventually the screen will refresh, and the word “ready” (1) will appear, along with the Adobe pdf icon (2). If the screen doesn’t refresh, delete the file and resubmit. 1 2

  16. 2 1 3 After the conversion, you will see the name of your resume show up in the main documents screen (1). Under the “View” column, there will be two icons, a white letter icon (2) which is the saved version of your Word or WordPerfect file, and an Adobe .pdf icon (3) which is the .pdf version of your file. Before continuing, ALWAYS click on the .pdf icon to make sure that the conversion has worked properly.

  17. The .pdf version is what employers will see when you submit for job listings. If the file doesn’t convert properly (margins are incorrect or extra pages) delete the file from Symplicity, reformat in the original document, and resubmit.

  18. 1 Repeat the process for uploading by clicking Add New. Select the correct item type before uploading new files: “Other Documents”, “Cover Letters”, or “Reference Lists”.

  19. As stated, ALWAYS review the .pdf version of every file that you submit. Check that all margins are correct, especially see that the file has not flowed over into additional pages (one-page resumes should not become two-page documents). Print out your work!
