Center for Blind Women Project 3: Door Step School, Pune Project Name: Door Step School Location: Mumbai District, Maharashtra Sponsoring Chapters: Seattle, NYC/NJ, Atlanta (soon) Project Name: Rehabilitation Center for Blind Women Location: Tiruchirappalli District, Tamil Nadu Sponsoring Chapters: Atlanta, New Jersey Door Step School is a registered non-profit organization working in Mumbai and Pune, India. They conduct non-formal education classes for out of school and working children (7 to 18 years of age) residing in slums, on pavements, docks etc. With the introduction of the "School on Wheels" bus, Door Step has come closer to fulfilling one of its major objectives - making basic education easily accessible to a larger number of children. This first-of-its-kind institution in southern India provides rehabilitation and vocational training for blind women in poverty. These women are integrated into society in a self-fulfilling and meaningful manner. Asha financed the purchase of Braille equipment and food supplies. Project Name: Sahyog Location: Mumbai Sponsoring Chapters: Atlanta, Berkeley Sahyog is a school for girls in the Jari Mari Basti in Mumbai. It caters to the needs of adolescent girls who have had to drop out of school due to various societal pressures. Asha funds have gone towards supporting a formal school, an informal school, teacher training, workshops and fellowship programs at the school.
