  11. How to Avoid Plagiarism 1. Use your ideas and your own words. 2. Give credit for other's ideas and words, even if you paraphrase. 3. Even if you reword the wording, that doesn’t make the work yours, so again give credit where credit is due.

  12. 4. Cite everything, no matter where you find it Notes Speeches TV shows, movies Recordings Lectures Web pages Memos Pictures ETC...

  13. 5. Common knowledge does not need to be cited, but make sure it's common knowledge! 6. If you're not sure, be safe and use a citation. "Avoiding Plagiarism: Mastering the art of scholarship." (1999) http://www.academicintegrity.org/educational_resources/pdf/plagiarism.pdf Student Judicial Affairs UC-Davis

  14. Student Conduct Code Treat everyone and their ideas/beliefs with respect. Learn from the differences! Getting angry and demanding to get what you want may be considered threatening behavior and could be considered a violation of the student conduct code. Sexual harassment and discrimination of any sort is not tolerated. Contact the University Ombudsman if you feel you have been harassed or discriminated against. If you don't get the answer you want ask the person what the next step in the appeal process is.

  15. Undergraduate Grading System UW Bothell uses a numerical grading system. Instructors may report grades from 4.0 to 0.7 in 0.1 increments and the grade 0.0. The number 0.0 is assigned for failing work or unofficial withdrawal. Grades in the range 0.6 to 0.1 may not be assigned. Grades reported in this range are converted by the Office of the Registrar to 0.0. Numerical grades may be considered equivalent to letter grades as follows:

  16. Incomplete An incomplete is given only when the student has been in attendance and has done satisfactory work until within two weeks of the end of the quarter. A student must have furnished proof satisfactory to the instructor that the work cannot be completed because of illness or other circumstances beyond the student's control. The grade is immediately converted to a 0.0 by the last day of the following quarter if the agreement is not upheld. For more information visit: http://www.uwb.edu/registration/policies/grading/grading-ug

  17. Academic Warning If your GPA Falls below a 2.0, and you are in your first quarter at the university, you will be given an academic warning. If you don't achieve above a cumulative 2.0 GPA your next quarter, the next step is academic probation.

  18. Academic Probation While on probation, you must receive a 2.5 GPA each quarter until your cumulative GPA reaches above a 2.0. If you fall below a 2.0, you are dismissed for low scholarship and must be reinstated if you want to return.

  19. Reinstatement Your advisor will walk you through the reinstatement process. You potentially may not be accepted back into the university.
