What is Representative Democracy • Why Do We Have Democracy? • We have a Democracy because if we didn’t the government would have complete control over us. • They would get to decide if they wanted you to go to war or who was prime minister/president! • They could even decide how many kids you can have! That would suck! A democracy is when as a person you can elect who your government representative is and get to make a lot of their choices for them. The 4 pillars • Justice, Everyone has the right to a fair court trial and depending on the case has a equal sentence as everyone else. • Equity, Everyone is treated equally and has the same rights unless you are in a special group. • Freedoms, Everyone can say as they wish to as long as they say it in a respectful way. Also we can protest. • Representation, Everyone can vote for who they want and can run for office and possibly win. • These are the 4 pillars and in a Democracy we have those rights!   5. How to contribute to society… • Some ways you can help are to vote, volunteer, donate and run for office. Those 4 things are easy and very helpful. • If you vote you help to decide who your representative is. • Volunteering will help people everywhere, not just in your town. • Donating will help get more people food or get your town more things • Running for office will make you the representative.
